Doc changed P from Risperdol to Abilify - any btdt

P had her med check this am. He changed her from Risperdol to Abilify. We were trying to reduce the risperdol due to weight gain, but she was just having to much trouble. Anyone have a child on Abilify?

abilify

Our son was on abilify for a couple of years. Weight gain was also a side effect. The psychiatrist said that these types of meds make it more difficult to recognize when you are full. It is really important to help the child eat appropriate amounts of food to avoid further weight gain and possible symtoms of diabetes.

As an adult, I am on Abilify. I can attest that the weight gain issue can be a problem. I like to eat, but I have been ravenous since starting this med. I also have Type 2 Diabetes, which was very well under control, but Abilify makes anything I eat spike my blood sugar. For that reason, I am asking my pdoc to change my meds.

Came back to add the good: I take it in conjunction with Vybriid (anti-depressant), and it helps to take the edge off my anxiety. I just stopped taking the Abilify, and haven't noticed much change, but it's only been a few days.

We had a 9 year old foster daughter who was on Abilify for almost a year, it did nothing.

They switched her to Risperodol. Unfortunately she left before we knew if it helped at all.

I have a child on Prozac and Abilify. The combo has been the best ever for her. She takes it for depression and sudden mood swings. The Abilify really stopped the mood swings. It hasn't had any effect on her eating. She has been on this combo for about 8 months.

I have a daughter on abilify and celexa for PTSD with some psychosis syptoms and extreme rage. Abilify has been a miracle drug for her. She has been on it a year. She has not gained weight but she is constantly hungry. :/
