Are drop-in (unannounced) CASA visits typical?

Wondering if this is the norm in your area?

I was a CASA for a while and I never did unannounced visits. That seems odd. But it's been a few years...maybe that's something new.

We have not had an un-announced CASA visit, but we do have un-announced CW visits. Although, I would say that an un-announced CASA would not surprise me and I feel like it would be a good thing.

Our CASA visits have never been unannounced. But he has called and said 'I'm in the area can I drop by in an hour' sort of a thing.

I've never had a drop-by from anyone. Every one calls usually several days ahead to set up a time to come by.

I loved my CASA and she was always stopping by with stuff for the boys or a picture or a note she thought I would find funny. I miss her now. She would stop by unanounced but we leave the door open because everyone stops by my house! Last Halloween she came by and left three pumpkins and a scarecrow on my front porch! She was one of the nicest people I have ever met!

No. Our CASAs have always been very formal and professional. Set up dates and times to meet, etc.

Do you think drop in visits would be UN professional? I think they are a good idea, except that I bet there would be a lot of disappointed visitors who'd never find us at home!

It is a tough thing to get used to, I guess, never knowing when one will have an unexpected visitor...I understand the reasoning behind drop-in visits, but I have to confess I am not overly fond of them.

Good point Stwin.

I just don't enjoy drop by visitors when I have 4+ children, a schedule for the day that is completely busy, and then a ....by the way, we're going to drop by and sit and visit. Not handy, but yes, a good idea. How would they get the real picture of what's going on sometimes with homes and Fhomes.

In my CASA training, we were told not to do unannounced visits. We were told we could drive by the home if we wanted, but to always let the person know we were coming. Some of my families did not have telephones, so I would set up my next meeting with them the meeting before, but it did just require me showing up when they were not home.

I think it just depends. I think you can tell your CASA, you would like him or her to call first. It's good manners.

Frank's first CASA always made appointments with me but his second CASA stops by whenever she's in the neighborhood. Not a big deal.
