Managing a Sick Household

Both C and DH are fighting the flu. R has the flu and strep throat. C is fairly perky until about noon and then again for a while after nap. R really doesn't seem as sick as he actually is. They've all seen the doctor and all have been told to stay home the rest of the week. Normally, only one of us is sick at a time.

Give me your tips for managing your household when everyone but you is ill. How do you keep everyone sane when they're cooped up in the house for multiple days. We're on day three of illness in the house and probably have another 4 before heading back into the world.

I can deal with everyone else's illnesses except DH! Man, do I have little patience for that!

Movie marathons, make soup together, if they're well enough- take a walk for some fresh air...

Boy do I feel for you. Hang in there and tell DH you are planning a girls get away when this is over. My DH turns into a churly baby when he is sick. Even his mother has said good luck to me when he is ill. I think I would start Lysol-ing everything.

I second the movie marathon. I've got two little ones plus me home sick this week. We've just parked on the bed in front of the TV for the most part. Read some stories, made some warm honey-milk, colored lots of pictures, etc. For the most part, they're not too interested in being as active as they normally are so they're fairly easy to manage.

DH and the boys are zoning in front of the tv again today. Lunch is about to come out of the oven. Since I'm not sick, I'm still trying to work from home and have already had 3 meetings by phone this morning. One more to go today while they all nap.

I've given up trying to put stuff away and figure that baskets of laundry in the living room (clean and folded) are going to be this week's decor. I've relocated to sleeping on the couch so DH can have the bed and minimize the sharing.

R's teacher has send home a stack of work for him. We've got until Monday to wade through it. He picked a great week to be ill. They had two days off this week and were scheduled for a field trip on Friday. So, he's only go 2 days of school work to make up.

Thanks for the well wishes. The movie marathon is on. Yesterday is was a Phineas and Ferb marathon.

Ugh...I hate these times when everyone is down at the same time!!!

You are doing everything I would suggest. You basically keep them down as much as you can, have a supply of fluids and quiet activities for them to do and just hope for the best.

I do recommend cloroxing all the doorknobs, t.v. remotes, light switches, game system etc. to get the germs outta the house and help YOU not get sick too. Course, it's YOUR rest and fluids that really need to be watched as well so that your immune system can help fight this. Vitamins etc.

Hopefully it works...unfortunately 1/2 the time I seem to finally come down with whatever it is a few days after everyone is better despite doing the above. Luckily I never seem to get it as bad.

Hang in there!

Kelly, "hideous" is the only word I can find for this flu, too!

OP - I pray you stay healthy long enough to nurse everyone to health and that you stay *strong*! It is rough. Our whole household has it, too
