Sleeping Arrangements??
If I have one room with two beds, I know the children must be both of the same sex. BUT, can you have a brother and sister in the same room? What are the rules for this?
Thanks! |

I believe you can but there is an age requirement that both children be under 5. I would ask a CW or your agency for the specifics in your county.

Sometimes they allow it even past the age of 5, but as mama mentioned, it's up to CW to allow that to happen. It's on a case by case basis.

They have to be under 6 to share a room in our county, but age doesn't matter if the children are the same sex.

Can a very large room have more than 2 kids in it? How about a queen or king bed, one child only?

Every state I've heard of has a one child per bed rule. Way too many of these kids have been victims of sexual abuse to ever put them in the same bed as another person. But every state has different rules about the number of kids per room. A few places have a maximum of two, no matter the size of the room. But most have a number of square feet each child needs. So if in your area it's 50 sq feet per child, then a 10x10 room could have two children, or a 15x10 room could have three, and so on. |

In NY, they have to be under 4.

In MA they have to be 4 and under for opposite sex to share a room. Siblings can share a room up to the age of 8.

It depends on the state, county, and in some cases even the cw. I also have only ever heard the 1 bed, 1 child rule but the number in a room usually depends on the size of the room... I had bunkbeds and 4 in the bedroom - but we had a huge family room that they played in...
Siblings usually depend on age - in FL it is under 3.
