What states have a good reputation for adoption?

We are in Florida and have an approved home study to adopt an available child from the foster care system. We are looking for a girl between ages 4 - 12. We have been searching within Florida, but are ready to consider other states. I saw Oregon mentioned on this forum. Any other states have a good reputation for interstate adoptions?

I don't know if this is true, but I heard that Oregon and Ohio were very difficult to adopt from (are you using photolistings??).

We tried WA, OR, OH, FL, and TX and never got a returned call on the homestudies I sent out. We finially gave up and adopted domestically from KS. Currently we are matched to adopt from photolisting but in the same state - I think most states prefer in-state when they can.

Hi,

this agency is located in FL and they have a program where you can adopt through the foster care system. A friend of mine was thinking of using them and showed me the site.

I know a lot of people who adopted from Texas. Another good way to inquire about children you may be interested is AdoptUsKids - Children In Foster Care Awaiting Adoption

We adopted our son from Florida and it went fairly smoothly. Florida's subsidy rate stinks... if that's a consideration for you.... as does their post-adoptive support, imo.

before we started with the state in foster care I contacted adoptuskids. They seem to be a really great group.

It can be. They have longer cases and give more time.

My interstate compact experience was awful and LONG (9 months) from Washington, so I don't recommend them either.
