OT: Suggestions Please.

My dd has started a habbit Im trying to break. She is starting to suck her bottom lip, especially at nap time and bed time. Her bottom part of her lip is red and sore. Not her lip actually but the skin next to the lip. You know when someone has chapped lips and its red on the outside next to the lip. That is how it is on the bottom part is, but worse and it does hurt her. She sucks it without knowing it, while she sleeps and you can hear her sucking away. What can I do to stop it? Help Please.

When I was young, I continued to suck my thumb at night, so much so that it started to flatten out. My parents put some sort of nasty tasting stuff on my thumb at night to keep me from sucking. It really worked and was made specifically for thumb sucking. Don't know what it is/called, but it was like in a dropper form except with a brush tip. Maybe put that on outside her her lip RIGHT before bed and that might help avert her from it. Good luck!

Could it be a reaction to allergies or congestion? My son used to suck on his bottom lip when he was little... I thought it was a comfort thing until I asked his Pedi. Pedi looked at me with this knowing smile, checked his throat and ears and he was super congested. Just a random thought.
