should we switch agencies?
I have been a fully approved foster parent for 1 year/ 2years if you count the year everything was done but they didn't finalize my papers until they found a 'fit'
I am with a state/county agency and only taking kids under 3. In the 2 years so far I have received 3 calls. The first we turned down due to age (we just don't have anything in that age group) and severity of issues. The second we took and LOVED but it was only a weekend (ended up Gma came forward after finding out BMom actually meant she couldn't take it anymore PTL) and the last we turned down because of age and medical issues I didn't feel prepared to handle (child was severely beaten and hospitalized for over a week..still on a liquid diet and lots of don't dos and make he he does) When I got the last call I found out my caseworker (foster parents have one and the kids have one too) changed positions and I hadn't even heard. contact has been so sparse, but its also not like I've been calling everyday either (we called alot in the beginning) So I'm wondering if we should try to switch agencies...but then if we did would we have to go through all the hoops again? or would they take the copies of the referrals we already used? any suggestions of agencies please feel free to PM me, I live in Phillly. **also, to note I am expecting the end of September, though this has no baring on why they hadn't called (there was no note in my file when called a few weeks ago) I don't plan on doing anything too drastic until mid oct, or so.**

You might want to switch to an FFA (If I understand correctly you're with the actual county like DFS). You will probably have to redo most of your paperwork and homestudy but since you're expecting they probably don't want to do any placements for 1 year so, you'll have plenty of time to get a new homestudy completed. I would also see what the agency "specializes in" ie, do they place younger children and what is their adoption rate?
Good luck. |
