We are finally here. TPR scheduled for tomorrow. I have to testify. It will be bittersweet - I cheered these parents on for a long time, but in the long run they just didn't complete their treatment plan and missed almost half their visits.
The goal was changed from RU to adoption by non-relatives 10 days ago. Those non-relatives are us! So while I'm happy to be on the road to adoption, tomorrow will be a sad day. This is the first time ever I've been at, let alone testified at a TPR hearing. I will update again after court. |

I didn't have to testify. The parents did not contest the termination! Court was over in 45 minutes.
After the bio mom and I talked for awhile amidst tears and hugs. She knows we love her daughter and take good care of her. She knows this is in her best interest. We also talked about the future a bit (concerning visits) and I laid it out to her that I am open to them on my terms. It's a bittersweet day - sadness for the bios but a step forward for permanency for our FD. I doubt they will appeal the decision but they may. Hopefully we can start the adoption process sooner rather than later. ![]() |

I want to say congratulations, but I know you have mixed feelings, so I don't want to sound insensitive! But I'm so happy that things went quickly and smoothly, and everything is moving forward :-) |

Thank you for your kind words. I too am glad things are moving forward - I just have to focus now on what is best for my FD.

Wow! I'm glad that you could both speak and that you will always have that moment to be able to share with your daughter in the future, whether or not the visits are able to happen.
I hope that the adoption process continues to be as smooth as the TPR.

Do you mind if I ask, what the bios did or didn't do to loose their child???

In a nutshell, the baby was removed because of meth exposure. The bios missed half their visits and did not complete their treatment plans. They were given many opportunities to get back on track and never followed through. |
