Question Which do you prefer? Short-term or Long-term

Do you prefer short term placements or long term placements?

I know we usually don't know how long a placement is going to be with us. But in your experience, do you like the placements that are more than say 6 months or the shorter placements?

I think that I like the shorter term better. We have had our current placement for 2 years. I don't like seeing what the bios and the system do to children in that amount of time. On the other hand, I am able to be a positive influence in their lives for longer. Longer placements just seem to really drain you emotionally. That's longer at a time that you don't know which direction your life is going. You don't really know how to plan for the future. As soon as you think things are going one way they're changed by someone or something.

So, how about you?

I think I prefer shorter term mostly. It does give you more flexibility to help a child, recouperate a little and then help the next child. However, our best placement was long term and then permanent and resulted in our precious adopted daughter.

I would like long term if they are infants but for an older child..short term is best for us.
