Letting them go...

Is harder than I thought it would be.

This was my first placement. A 6 yo boy and his 4 yo sister. They have been with us for a month and a half.

I know that is not that long. It feels like a year to me. We just got back from an amazing 10 day trip to Disneyworld. These are such sweet kids. Full of hugs and kisses - no real issues other than missing their siblings.

I am glad I had them for the time I did. I loved their company, and so did my 8yo son. The house feels empty already.

I pray that they will be safe and happy, yet have huge doubts about how realistic that is...

I am just so sad to see them walk out the door. So sad...

Thanks... sigh...

My son is handling it... well... I don't honestly know.

For the entire time they were here they acted like *best friends/aquaintances/enemies* All of these things, all of the time, depending on the moment!

I guess like new brothers and sisters. : )

When the news came to us this morning, with no notice... I asked him. He seemed indifferent. Untill they left.

His little heart is broken, too.

Unhappy

I am on my 3rd placement and everyday I think about the first one and it still breaks my heart. Another child will be along soon enough but I don't think you ever forget your first!

I am sending thoughts your way.I know how you feel.I lost my 2 angels 3 months ago after having them for 3 months and it still hurts BAD.
I had a good-bye visit planned but the family never showed up so I took the clothes to the worker. He said that the kids are doing well although, the move was hard becasue they did not know the cousin and did not want to be there at all.She said the oldest was confused saying that he now has 3 mommies and 3 daddies.
It torn me apart hearing this becasue she was the one that was more distance to me but at the end she was coming around.
I too feel that the situation is not the best for the children, not because the family member is bad, because they are not bad people. It is because I think the family has taken on more then they can handle with their own children and these children who have gone through so much.
I would like to say it gets easier and I am SURE it will with time, however with me it has not gotten better yet. Hopefully it will start to get easier when I get another placement. I know it will not take away the pain of losing them, but I am hoping it will help me to move on.
I pray that they are as happy and happier then they were with me and that things go well, but if they don't I will be there to help them pick up the pieces.
Find comfort in knowing that you have done a good job with them and always cherish the memories.

I am so sorry, and can understand how you feel. Our little angel has only been with us for 6 days, and if and when she leaves, she'll be taking a piece of my heart with her.

I know its sort of cliché to say this, but the love and security you gave these children, even for a short time, is priceless. And that trip to Disneyland will be etched in their memories forever.

Many hugs to you and your family as you grieve their loss.
