Does your CW show up without calling??

I have never had one do this until today, and I just thought it was strange.

This is the cw for our 10 yr old FD, I had just talked to him this morning and answered all the usual questions. Then he talked wit fd, and then about 3 hrs later someone knocked on my door (at nap time at that) low and behold it was him...and now his office is about 2 hrs away...he said he did not know he was going to be in area?? So he could not call when he KNEW he was down the road??

It is not a problem, but I just never had that happen, thought it was strange...most cw call and schedule a time that will work.

FD did not seem too surprised...hmmm...just fyi..this is her 4th placement, I did not know..and I know she asked to be removed from last foster home...should I be concerned???

What were the details surrounding her requesting her last removal?

How about the other three removals?

I'd say your level of concern should be based off that.

Around here we are subject to unannounced visits. We usually get one a year form the agency and one from DFPS. Of course, because they've learned, they need to call while they're en route to be sure we're actually here....

To answer your question, no. The SW always called first, but we were fost/adopt w/ an infant.
That said, there were plenty of times that the SW called the last week of the month and asked if he could visit that same day -- couple hours notice. Each time, the SW apologized but said they needed to get the visit in before end of the month. After a while, we just looked at our calendar. When we didn't get a call the 3rd week of the month to schedule one, we knew we'd get one of those, "Oh sh-" calls ". . . can I see you later this day."

Most agencies are required to do unannounced visits. However very few actually do them. Sounds like this one is doing her job.

Our CW gives us unannounced visits every other month. We even live in a gated community and if she forgets the code she waits outside the gate until she can follow someone in. You know she is trying to be sneaky if she doesn't even call us to buzz her in! She knows what a lot of my pj's look like!! lol

Yes, I've had workers show up without calling first. And yes, they too learned all my pj's! And how I looked without makeup! LOL!

I wouldn't worry too much...unless as other pp said there is something concerning her last homes. I hate to say it, but if fd is sneaky, maybe she said something to the worker that caused him to show up without letting you know first.

As a single working parent, my cw's have had to call. I know they're supposed to be unannounced but they'd come and I wouldn't be home. I always know when they're coming.

I tell every cw that I have an open door policy and if they are in the area they are more than welcome to drop by unannounced.

I even had one come in without knocking and embarrased himself. I was talking with company, the front door open with the screen shut and he just walked in. Backed right out and knocked. lol

They all know what I look like with no makeup and without my contacts, glasses on instead. I've even had them see me with my teeth unbrushed and hair not combed. Oh well. That is what happens unannounced.

Yea, I certainly do not mind them showing up without calling, and yes it was a clean house day, so I was still in my pjs...so thank you all, I feel a little better and after i talked to my agency...I just worry a little about this placement because she is sneaky....and she did talk with him on phone that morning. But he said nothing to me nor did he talk with her alone when he came by...so...I am not gonna worry, I have nothing to worry about...but with reading about all these false allegations...it makes us a little nervous.

My caseworker would drive an hour one way just to find out I don't answer the door if I'm not expecting anyone. Seems like it could be a potential waste of time in some cases.

I got told at my last visit that they don't do unannounced visits unless they are suspicious of you. So I am good.

They only have so much time to do it to me, since I work f/t.

When FS got a new worker she made a point of saying that scheduled visits were a courtesy to us. I made a point of saying I understood, but if she wanted to see FS awake and in the home on a weekday, it'd have to be around 6pm because before that we're at work/en route and after that he's in bed! She's always made an appointment, though I have had a couple of those end-of-month calls
