For those who adopted newborns....how long did it take?
Just curious what the fastest possible time is on adopting a child that was fostered since birth and went through TPR and all that. For those of you who adopted a fosterchild you received as a newborn, how long was it to your finalization date?

It looks like we will finalize a month before her 2nd Birthday.
Our case did have a RU at 4-6 months old, that resulted in new charges. Because of this, they keep telling me that our adoption is "fast". ![]()

We finalized when he was 8 mos old, but that is the fastest it has ever occurred on a child under 1 year old in the whole state. It was a special circumstance with one parent deported and the other signed off at the TPR hearing at 3 mos old, so she could not appeal the TPR.
A friend of mine finalized at 13 mos, but that was a baby they did not attempt RU with. Most here finalized around 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years. One aquaitence has had her foster baby since 3 days old and they just finished the appeal of the TPR. She should finalized in 6 mos, the baby girl will be 6 years old.

the reason I ask is that our SW said we may finalize at 10 months! I find this to be too good to be true!...but will keep our fingers crossed.

I'd double or triple that timeframe and then it might be realistic. There are strange circumstances. Usually it is centered around your child being the youngest of a large sibling group and the other children are terminated and adopted or in that process. Also where the parents have a long history with DCFS and they are not given a caseplan. Good luck and hope it all goes smoothly.

In my case it was known from birth that baby would never live with mom. Placed with me at 3 days. That said we are at 2 years and counting.

I've had them since day 3. Previous children terminated. TPR granted May 26.....still waiting for a state worker to be assigned. I have high hopes they will be finalized by kindergarten (kidding - kind of).
We have a 30 day appeal - I wouldn't be surprised if the parents try to appeal, but don't think they can find grounds for appeal. We didn't have a trial, the judge granted a motion for summary judgement - "appeal proof" per the ADA. 16 months tomorrow...still waiting........ |

Our son just turned 8 months old
We had a miracle adoption if I could say that...being infertile for over seven years. We got our FC license on July 18th 2007 and got a call about a 2 day old baby boy on July 23rd 2007. On November 20th 2007 the birthmother found out she was pregnant again and in order to flee the county with the new baby b4 it was born in DCS's care she TPR'd immediatly. She figured she had no fighting chance anyways because she had already had three previous children involuntarily terminated years prior for abuse. The courts favored the TPR on January 3rd 2008 and on Februaray 27th our beautiful baby boy at the age of 8 months old was legally forever ours! Evidently this doesn't happen often as smoothly as ours went. Going into it we had no idea anyways so we honestly never felt any other heart ache besides the wait from July 23rd until November 20th 2007. That was rough because you just never know what could happen. Distant family members could come foward or the Judge could decide to drag out the case for 2 or 3 more years. Just pray and hope, and no matter what love that baby with all of your heart even if theres a chance your heart might break.

We also had an unusual situation. Bmom delivered, told the hospital sw that she did not want to parent and then left the hospital. No bfather was named. We picked up our son when he was 24hrs old. There was no visits and no birthfamily. We had to wait the full 6 mths before they could TPR b/c bmom's name was known. They published at 6mths and we finalized at 9mths; the paperwork and getting a court date took that long!
We have some friends that took a safe haven baby; b/c the bp's are unknown the county is allowed to TPR at the 3mth mark which will be July and they are looking to finalize on National Adoption Day. |

That could happen. TPR has happened right? Court dates are happening faster because it's not just one or two judges doing finalizations now. My court date set in Dec was only five weeks later, instead of the nearly three months in took back in 2006. From start to finish Jory's adoption was completed 19 months and 2 days after he came home. But a woman I took fost/adopt classes with finalized in 10 months with her son who was abandoned at the hospital...Though his case was in the OC, so I'm not sure if that made a difference or not. |

In our case, TPR was done at 6 or 7 months (bio-mom and dad had other kids TPR'd in other states and weren't working their case plan). We filed a petition to adopt at 11 months and finalized at 13 months.

My son is 2 1/2 years old and still not final.....should be in the next month or so, but I'll believe it when I see it. And this was pretty much an easy case. You are at the beckand call of many factors.
