Question What is a dependency hearing?????

Hi, we have had a fs for 4 months, since birth. He had a hearing when he was first placed with us at birth right before he left the hospital, then we were supposed to have a jurisdiction hearing to see if he was going to be sent to another state, that one got canceled, we just found out today that he is having a dependency hearing tomarrow, we don't know what that is exactly. Dad was at visit today (first one he's been to in 4 months) mom was there after she has cancelled about 6 visits. Can someone tell me what a denpendency hearing is? Are they going to decide if he gets to stay with us?
Thanks

I'm in NY; we have permanency hearings. Basically, it's determined if bio mom and/or dad are doing what they're supposed to do and if the case is RU or goes to TPR.

from what I understand

a dependancy hearing will indicate the plan as well as the 'official'ness of the child being in CPS care. Our case had a dependancy trial because the parents were fighting the dependancy. CPS only has temporary custody of the children. A dependancy trial is to say whether the child stays in care and what the goal/plan is. For example they can say "Ok...birthmom and BP have 6 months to do A) B) and C)." In our case the dependancy trial was postponed and the next court date will be the beginning of the trial for TPR.
