And we're off
This weekend we will have our first foster care experience. A respite weekend for a 9 yr old boy. Our agnecy has provided very little info on him. one cw told us it was just a respite weekend and a 2nd told us he has been visiting various preadoptive families on respite visits. We were given his current foster familiy's names and phone number and told to contact them to work out returning him when the weekend is over. We spoke to both fps. They offered alot of concerning info. We have asked the agency alot of questions but they do not have alot of info on him. We thought that since the child has been in fc for a while they would be able to give some info. Will we just see this kiddo for the weekend and then never again? If his placement is supposed to change like current fps say then shouldn't they let us know if the weekend went well for him and foe us? Still new and confused.

If the weekend goes well and this might be someone that you would like to spend more time with I would mention it to the CW and the fps. One weekend might be hard to know if this could be a match. Again maybe they have a family in mind and it is only respite. I would ask everything and anything again if you are interested. CW's normally don't give out to much info if it is just a weekend visit. You may never see him again but if you are sincerely interested I would make sure the CW knows. Good luck with your fostering experiences. Let us know how the weekend goes.

we usually don't get too much info from the cw or agency, the current fp seem to be the best source.
are you the one who was waiting on the sib group to hear if they were moving them to your house? or was that someone else?

yes, they said they are not in any hurry to change their placement but they do know we are still interested. Thanks for remembering!

My first knee jerk reaction is that the agency knows something and is not telling you. My suspicion would be that this 9 yo is difficult and the foster family needs a break.
Let us know how it works out. |

most kids will behave on respite, though, since they will be on a honeymoon of sorts with you. we've had some re occuring respite kids that only started to misbehave a little after several weekends over here.
