School Trouble

Got an email from B's teacher after lunch yesterday telling me that he got in trouble for drawing an 'inappropriate picture' in art class (had to flip his card). I worried all afternoon about what he had drawn! He gets home and it is a picture of a dog pooping. Really? I was quite relieved (get it haha!). He had flipped his card once the day before and twice yesterday for talking so am thinking they were just frustrated with him at that point. Yes, he did get a punishment for the talking part. I did support the teacher and asked him not to draw that anymore, but I still think it is a bit silly. He is a boy. Dogs poop.

From a teacher's perspective... when he was drawing the picture what was he SUPPOSE to be doing? Because I'm sure he wasn't doing it and may not have gotten it done since he was wasting time doing that.

Also - were other kids laughing and distracted and therefore not completing their own work because they were busy checking out his work of art?

Was he doing it to get attention and distract them?

My oldest spent quite awhile goofing off, falling out of his chair, ect. to get attention in class - meanwhile disrupting the class, stopping the teacher from teaching, and not getting work done...

It was free drawing time and he must not have been getting any attention because the teacher said she didn't realize what he was drawing until he was done.
If he was doing what you suggested I would understand getting in trouble. That's why I just didn't get it. I did find it all a bit funny, though! Of course I couldn't tell him that (-:

I'm thinking what on earth could he have drawn???? I agree, a dog pooping, while not he best choice, isn't the worse thing in the world either. Just use it as an opportunity to teach him what is acceptable and not.

Kids this age(boys primarily) love potty humor and it can take a while to get them to stop bringing it up every minute!

As a teacher, I would have used that as a teachable moment and asked him to draw the owner cleaning up the poop. Might as well teach them to follow the law. Then again, I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy. Ha!

I'm with you - I don't see what was soooo "inappropriate".

Potty humor reigns supreme in my house between my DH and my 11 yo stepson! Sounds like they made a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be. I love Hugsie's idea of drawing a person cleaning it up too!
