I am frustrated and a bit ticked.
a few weeks ago our current FS's CW told us about a possible upcoming case and said that she would put in for my DH and I to be the foster parents etc. The bio mom was pregnant and had already lost one child to the system and that child is being adopted by family members adoption finalizes in May. the baby would be born addicted because the mom used during her entire pregnancy.
We get a call yesterday from our CW and she asked if DH and I would take this addicted newborn and said that the family members turned it down because they couldn't handle an addicted newborn. She said there was a good chance to adopt this little one which is our goal. We said Yes we would do it knowing how hard it would be. Well today i talked with baby's CW and she say's "OH NO THE RELATIVES ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT POSSIBLY TAKING THE BABY!!!!" she said she made that very clear to our CW! the baby will be hospital for another week and they are trying to decide whether or not to take her. They dont want to keep her long term but are possibly willing to take her UNTIL bio Grandmother could have a homestudy done and take her. Children services can't guarantee grandmother would pass a homestudy therefore the relatives dont know what to do. They have this baby's bio sibling but know they can't take care of an addicted baby.
so now we are on standby until i hear more from the CW's. I'm frustrated! one day we are told we are getting a newborn that has a high chance of adoption, next day we are told you have to wait to see if relatives want her plus there's a GMA that wants to try to possibly get the baby!!!!
has this happenned to anyone else? we are new at this so i'm just amazed by the lack of communication however this may be common?

I'm sorry to say it but welcome to the wonderful world of foster care!

It's totally unpredictable. We had at least 4 calls like this one (one when we were on vacation and sat at the airport waiting to see if we had to fly home to get a 4 month old...which we eventually didn't get).

Don't trust anything until the baby is on the way. Plus, sometimes it's better to do all of this back and forth now BEFORE you have the baby. It's better for the family to step in now rather than when you've had the baby for a week or two and totally fallen in love.

We didn't get that 4 month old but were placed with an 18 day old baby who we still have. Good luck and I'm sure the right placement for you will come along.
