Unhappy Since your license, when did you get your first placement?

I have been with my private agency almost a month, and still no placement, no calls, I wanted to know, how long others have waited for their first placement, and wondering if I should have my license transfered to another agency???????? Please share your thoughts...

We got our first placement about 3 weeks after we were licensed. After we increased the license to accept two kids, it took quite a bit longer (I don't remember off the top of my head but I think it was 2 or 3 months). After that 2nd placement left we only had an open bed for alittle over a week. That third placement left about 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten another call yet.

If I was you I'd try to give it a little longer before switching agencies. A month isn't really that long, even though I know it feels like forever.

It was 3 months from the time that we were licensed to when we received our first call for placement. It felt like forever.

We waited 7 months, and we weren't actually 'called', they had been placed with other foster parents and when that placement disrupted, the kids went to us because they knew us somewhat, and we were in their former school district.

Since licensed, how long before first call

I was licensed in July and got my first call in October. Not sure where you live, but in LI, the trend is to keep "families together" with supervision.

Forever

I'm in IL, and waited about 1.5 yrs for my 1st placement. They are gone now, and I'm waiting for another. It's been 2 months since they left.

It was one week to the day.

Worst placement we ever had, too! The kids were brought in as basic and were actually high needs.

But the 2 yr old was awesome.

Be patient. Lots of areas are trying to keep kids in the home now.

I got a call within 3 days of being licensed and took in my first placements 1 week to the day of being licensed.
One I still have (Mr. Touchy) will be leaving today to another foster home and we had his brother moved 8 months into his living with us (he went to therapeutic).

We're also with a private agency. We're in WA state. Our goal is foster-adoption. According to our agency, the biggest factors that influence wait times are what your preferences are, such as age range, race, and special needs. I hope you hear good news very soon!

Received license in the mail on a Saturday - got my first call on that Monday. So, 2 days. I'm in NJ.

I hear some states are really advocating in-home services vs foster care...sounds like another implication from the country's "financial crisis".
