Another Month!!!

Okay, here I was all set for Baby Don King to go to his new Foster Home. (Recap - I requested for all the kids to be moved, because of personal issues, the very next day they found a home for each of the kids). Well they found another home, he was leaving today, his Mom and Grandmom found out and are raising all sorts, that they don't want him to go to another home, that they want him to stay with me. Mom asked me to be his God Mother, that we were part of her family and that they loved me. Well they kinda talked me into keeping him for another month while Mom finishes up what she needs to do to get him back. She only has to take her parenting classes. He is a easy baby and underneath it all I am excited he is staying, even though I had already started the grieving process. So, I guess just Mr. Touchy will be leaving tomorrow. I'm still very sad about that, but know it's really the best.

Am I crazy??? I know I will be able to handle just the baby and my son. Mr. Touchy is a very high maintenance kid and was too much for one person alone. Am I doing the right thing????

I think you are doing the very best thing you can! The family trusts you and its sounds as if mom is on the right track to getting her life in order to get her baby back. Maybe she will and he will go home to mom next month. You would have done this family and this child the best service you could give them by keeping him safe and consistantly with you until he is placed back with his biomom.
Congrats to you for being a great foster parent by working with the family and gaining love and trust. That is what a true foster parent is.
Have fun with your son and you little Baby Don King...you will enjoy the busy life you will have the next month to keep your mind off of your devestating personal issues.

The fewer moves for Baby DK, the better. He knows you and loves you and trusts you. And you know you can handle things now that it's just him and your bson.

So I'd say yes, Sam, you're doing the right thing. Given how hard things are for you right now, it's a brave and honorable thing, too---a real sacrifice you're making for Baby DK. You're amazing---I totally admire you. :-)

What a wonderful affirmation from his family! That must have been a bit of a boost for you. If you feel able to do it, I agree that it is best for the baby, and I hope to heaven she DOES get him back in a month or you're going to be facing the same problem again, then. How are you doing otherwise?

Thanks. I'm doing good with everything except the fact that from all the stress, I got sick. I still haven't really fully got my voice back, I sorta sound like a phone sex operator (maybe I should use it to my advantage, LOL). Anyway, as an update, still have Baby Don King and Mr. Touchy who was supposed to leave on Saturday, didn't.

New Foster Mom called me and asked if I could stay with him until Monday because she got the flu. I can understand, I said "no problem". Touchy got sick, as so did everyone else in the house (except for Tony because he finally moved :-> ). I decided to keep him until today to make sure meds are working. So he goes today and I'm sad but I think I have grieved plenty and I know that once I drive away it will hit me again. But I know this is the absolute best for him. It has already been asked that if it doesn't work out in that foster home, will I take him back? I can't answer that and hopefully it doesn't happen, but it really depends on the situation and if I'm ready to fully commit to him.

So that's the update with me...

I think u r doing the right thing. I had 2 kids that were high maintenance and after a certain incident, I gave my agency 30 days notice, and got talked into keeping them for an additional 30 days on top of that, but their parents got it together and they went home right before xmas so it worked out for everyone.
