Talking Baby Steps!!!

We vent on here so much I am happy to have a chance to praise a little!!
We have had "I" for 10 months. She is 2 1/2. From the time we got her she could not stand, walk, or talk (she was 21 months when she arrived). None of the Dr.s could tell us for sure if she would walk! PT and OT were not even sure. Even worse is that we do not know what exactly is wrong with her (still working on all of this)!
She has come a long way in ten months with her speech. First we got her signing, and then the words started to come. Everyday she says more and shocks us a little.
Today takes the cake in my book of great things to see... She walked!! 5 steps right to me and while I have the video camera on her! I was so excited and so happy!! Oh how I wish you could all see it! I cry when I watch it!! I just know there is so much hope for her future!
Today was one of those great days that makes all the yucky stuff seem so minor!!!
I thought last week was great because we finally got her sister "V" (4 1/2 very delayed as well) potty trained & only had 1 small accident in over 10days, but really there is nothing like seeing a child walk that you never thought would be able to!!

Been in your shoes too! It is such an amazing feeling to see them walk when they come to us not walking. Mine was 2.5 yrs and couldn't walk, but we know what her problem is. Seeing things like that makes it all worth the effort we put into being foster parents. I think you just changed a child's life.

That's a wonderful thing. It sounds like she's doing great with you. Keep up the good work.

Our foster daughter was the same age when she came to us. She's wasn't talking at all. She caught up by the first of November and talks quite a bit now it's so encouraging when they make progress.

How thrilling! You're doing a great job! And that little one must be working hard at her PT and OT, too. Good for her! You both deserve a big hug and some proud tears.

I needed to hear that!

My ds was placed with us just two weeks ago having never stood on his own or taken steps, he will now take 5-6 steps routinely, but he has a VERY woooooobly gait. But, I'm encouraged that he will get there.

He also does not speak, and we're not sure what the future holds for that, but I'm encouraged to read that others have had kiddos close to his age that have eventually learned to talk Good news!!

Watching my daughter take her first steps was great... I was screaming "Did you SEE THAT!?!?!?" But, we always knew she would walk. Watching my son take his first steps I wanted to cry.... because we were told just two months ago in his disclosure that he might never walk... and here he is.

Sometimes it is so hard to have faith that they really are going to learn and get "it" and then it is amazing when they do! I have worried and worried about this sweet girl, but today I look at her and I see a much brighter picture! I will be praying for your little guy too! It sure sounds like he is in great hands!
It is funny that you mention your reaction to your daughter walking and your son walking...We have 1 yr old that stated walking at 8 months and I remeber how thrilled and excited we were, and that was wonderful, but like you said we knew she would walk. With "I" it was just so emotional and awesome!!

I can wait for OT/PT to see her do it and to see the video!
She HATES OT/PT! She just sees them walk in and she starts to have a fit, but boy we would not be at this point without them! They have taught us how to work with her, and not to be afraid to be a mean(in other words to keep working through the fits) and have really encouraged us when the doctors discouraged us! Got to love OT/PT!!!
