steps in adoption
can anyone outline the steps in adoption from foster care?
I have 2 kids ages, 3-4, that I am hoping to adopt. BMom is appealing and Bdad just appealed altho we didn't know that he was appealing!! My Cw is new (nice but new) and has no idea!! My Sw is being transferred and I am getting a new SW, she has been with the agency more then 3 yrs, so hopefully she will know!! What needs to be done to finalize the adoption, what can be done before TPR is finalized? Should I be asking for things to be done?

I am not sure how much I can help. Our sib set was already tpr's when we were placed. We are in CA and have to wait 6 months and then workers can start paperwork. 6 months is in 2 weeks (yeah). We just filled out the first set of paperwork we need to. Now my kids worker does some paperwork, and we go sign, then we go our our worker and sign more stuff, then she files for a court date, then we go to court. I am not sure if that helped, and it might be different for different states. Oh - but I do not think there is anything you can do right now.

August 2005 - approved with 1st agency October 2006 - 1st match (she lost the baby at 7 months) November 2006- 2nd match May 2007 - birthmom chose to parent July 2007 - decided to switch agencies Jan. 2008 - approved with agency #2 July 2008 - placed with our forever kids - sib set of 3 November 2008 - suprise phone call and we added their younger brother March 24, 2009 - finalized adoptions for first 3 June 16, 2009 - finalize adoption for #4

I have had fs since birth (almost 2 yrs). Here are the steps I have gone through for his adoption.
Once case plan was changed to adoption from ru it went forward like this: 1. Court for voluntary relinquishment (family knew they couldn't parent fs) 2. Named Current Caretaker (1st step in process in my state, before being named adoptive resource) 3. Identified as potential adoptive resource 4. Chosen by adoption committee to be adoptive resource 5. Updated adoption homestudy 6. Mediation for post adoption contact 7. Post adoption contact agreement signed 8. Adoption subsidy agreement is currently being finalized (very high special needs) 9. Choose adoption attorney 10. Get court date for finalization
