Developmental Assessment

Has anyone taken their child to get a developmental assessment done? We are currently in the process of wrapping things up in order to finalize our adoption and need to take our daughter to get one of these done.

I scheduled an appointment but am curious of a couple of things, she is only 20 months old, why do they need one of these done on her? Also what exactly will they be doing for the assessment?

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated!

If this is like an Early Childhood Intervention evaluation then they will have a few pages of questions that pertain to what things the 20 month old is doing. By answering these questions, they can get a true fix on what the developmental age of the child is based on accepted standards as to what a 20 month old should be doing.
This helps figure out what kind of therapies the child needs in order to catch up with her peers. Sometimes it also involves watching the child do certain tasks like stacking blocks, walking, holding objects, etc. I don't know why they would want one other than to show she needs therapy or not. It might have something to do with whether the state would be paying for additional services and that may come in a subsidy.

My FS has had 2 done already. They are just "play time" to the kids. He had a lot of fun. They will ask you tons of questions about what she is doing/not doing. It is really easy. No need to worry
