Question Providing Day Care While Fostering a child

Hi,
I'm cross posting this because I'm not sure where to put it.
We live in Florida and have almost completed the licensing process. Our file will be sent to DCF on Monday for licensing approval. My question is, can I also provide in-home daycare in addition to fostering children. We are doing the foster to adopt ages 0-3. I would like to do the daycare as a way to earn extra money as I am a SAHM for the most part. I only work 1 day a week outside of my home and my husband works nights. I would like to give up the other job and work from home completely if possible. I am just wondering if they would consider this a conflict of interest.
Thanks,
Theresa

I live in IL but here you can provide licensed in home day care as well as be a licensed fp. DCFS does licensing for both here but they are completely independent licensing departments within the department of children and family services.

I think in some states it is a problem if you have a licensed daycare. You only have to be licensed if you plan to watch more than 3 children that are not related to you.

Here in Iowa, if you want to do daycare in the home and do foster care, then you HAVE to be a registered or licensed daycare home. Like the other posts said, it is two different departments that do the licensing. It is even written in our foster training book, that should a person do daycare in the home, they must be registered so it was clear to me.

I talked with a fp at a training today. She has 2 kids in her home daycare who are under 18 months. She called the agency to ask for a new placement and was informed that she can't have any more babies because of her childcare clients! We have a 2 child limit for babies.

Hi, I've been doing some research and I think I have found some information. Florida does allow for dual licensing but you do have to apply seperately for each license. Some of the requirements are:
1. The total number of children in the home for both foster care and family day care should not exceed five (5) children regardless of whether foster children are customarily in the home during child care hours or not
unless a foster care waiver has been granted increasing the number of children in foster care allowed in the home, including the out of home caregiver’s own biological or adoptive children or any other children
residing in the home.
2. There must be no more than two (2) infants under twenty-four (24) months of age in the home, including the family’s own birth children.

In our state, Arizona, you can only have four children in your home under the age of six years old. This includes foster, adopted, bio, AND any child or children you provide care for. Our agency only allows three children under the age of six and we have been told that is what the state is going to be moving towards. So, in our case, we have adopted two of our foster babies, now 3 and 2, so we can only take one placement at a time. They, our agency, are very strict about it. When I was going to be watching my granddaughters part time for my daughter, they counted into our ratio and I was not going to be able to foster at all.

OK in CA

It's allowed in California. Yes you need two separate permits.

The lady down the street does it. She has people who work for her and does 24 hour child care so I don't know about limits. I think she can take in more because she has employees there.

I do know that I called the daycare supervising agency because she had an old door with broken glass shards hanging off of it in her front yard. She had it for days and children were playing out there. Yes I know I should have called before. Finally I called them and they came out and she got in a lot of trouble. I don't know what happened because we don't talk but the supervisor on the phone was angry.

(I don't like this woman - she hit my car and then claimed she didn't so it was a drawn out mess. Finally she had to take responsibility after I took her to small claims court).

In Nevada, it's not allowed.

Foster/daycare

It's not allowed in NY either although the foster parent who had my 2 little guys, ran one. The law wasn't en forced.
