OT: Moving to Philadelphia (maybe) XPOST

Hi everyone, this is completely off topic.

There is a chance that I may be offered a job in Philly with my friend's company. I have never been there and I know very little about the city and neighborhoods etc....

I have a few questions/comments I hope someone on here can answer:

I would like to initially rent a 2 to 4 bedroom single family home (but willing to live in an apartment) in moderately priced, diverse, family oriented area in Philly or surrounding cities/suburbs. Anyone have any suggestions? Any areas to avoid?

Does anyone know the average price of daycare for a 2 & 4 y/o?

Any other helpful information about the city would be appreciated as well..

Mt Airy is a nice area. That's where I live. We're out of the inner city, the crime rate's pretty low, and the train is readily accessible to take you downtown. The local public school is not the best, but if your eldest is 4, that would give you plenty of time to get him on the waiting list for the charter schools or to be rezoned to a different school if you so desired. The UU Church at Germantown has a cooperative nursery school but I'm not sure how long they provide daycare for (If it's all day or just in the mornings)

I think the northwest area (germantown, mt airy, east falls) is pretty diverse and lots of big houses so you should be able to find something nice to rent. Also the Fairmount/Art museum area is diverse but more pricey since you are close to Center City. I think child care is pretty expensive for day care centers for babies like around $1000/m. But there are other options besides the centers like group day care and family home daycare. You can contact the childcare referral agency and give them specifics about what you're looking for and they give you a list. Definitely PM me if you'd like. I am a Philly girl born and raised and can give you the straight scoop.
