Thumbs down Pregnant....Again

So I get an interesting call today. Word is that Mr. Touchy's Mom is pregnant again! This will make #6 and she is only 25. We thought the last one was it, apparently not. Supposedly she is 3 months along.

She hasn't done anything on her caseplan, so this is another kid coming into care. I guess the logical step would be to ask me if I would take him/her. I cannot answer that don't know where I will be in 6 months but WOW another kid.

There will be no way that Dad will be able to maintain all 4 kids plus a newborn. That will make her have a 10yr old (which was tpr'd and adopted), 8, 4, 3 and 1 still in care, now a newborn.

UGGHHH, I'm all for womens rights and a die hard pro-choicer, but someone should rip out her ovaries.

I used to be a CW and had a mom who was 19 and pregnant with her 6th! Same dad, he was 21 and had 3 other children by another girl. those kids were also in care.

We also had 4 in our care who were 4, 2 1/2, 13 mos and 3 mos, who had 2 living sibs with their gma, I think they were 6 and 7. There was a sib who had died who would have been 8. Mom was about 25.

It happens.

It is really a sad commentary on our social structure when technology and information so available among more educated, financially stable people seems to be withheld from those who really need it. Those of us with access to a myriad of forms of birth control and well as insurance to cover the sterilization of our choice - practically everyone DH and I know have been "fixed" - seems to be so unavailable to the people who really need it. I imagine it would be taboo for any social worker, someone who actually cares about this woman, to suggest she has her tubes tied and then have the government fund it. When do we realize that stopping this cycle is actually going to benefit the mom and the existing children??

Since we are comparing notes, when I was a caseworker, I worked with a 13 yrs old, who had a set of triplets and was pregnant again. I felt like pulling the 13yr old's mom outside in the parking lot and whipping her with a razor strap. She had the I don't care, this is normal, I am glad she is having her kids yearly attitude. The young lady is now in foster care and is separated from her children, who are also in foster care.

Sad reality.

Ditto Alizev.

The amazing thing, in my experience, is that while a lot of these kids are conceived totally intentionally by the women, the guys don't seem to know, plan or care. Dude, if you don't want to be on the hook for child support, don't go out without your raincoat!

I am all in favor of loved, wanted children. Even, I suppose, when they're conceived by people who love them and want them, but can't really take care of them. But kids shouldn't be casual accidents. Some days I wish I could give out gift cards to "Vasectomies R Us."

I agree that it is sad when a person keeps on having children who isn't able to care for them...but I do have to say that some of the comments about ripping out ovaries, ect is very insenstive and as an adoptee...one who wasn't "SUPPOSE" to be born, you know since my bparents weren't married, and I was my bdad's FOURTH child he didn't raise, it is offensive that people who ADOPT can say those things about the people, YES they are PEOPLE with feelings and hangups just like everyone, that have "given" them their children......

When I was a cw, I would ask them how many more children they plan to have. I have had maybe two or three who took offense. It is in the approach. What kills me is that most of these ladies have medicaid and will not use it; and in Texas we now have a program called the Women's Health Program, which pays for one gynological checkup yearly, contraception, or sterilization which is available to all women who are under age of 45 who are not yet sterile and not eligible for medicaid because of income.

And yes, BB, if you talk to some of these ladies, the pregnancies are intentional. They know the risks, but the risks of not being able to feed the children, or getting a std are not important, because the ladies will handle those issues when faced with them.

I am all in favor of the concept that each life is unique and precious. I was a casual accident...so what does that make my life...not as important?!!!

I don't see anyone saying that, Brock. What I do see are people frustrated and angry because children are being born to mothers incapable of raising them.

Give you a 'for instance'. A woman with addiction issues gives birth over and over again. Babies are born with FASD, and all that can entail. Should it just be shrugged off, or should people be upset that more children are being subjected in utero to alcohol abuse?

It doesn't make the children less valuable. It makes people frustrated and angry that someone that has proven time and again to be unable to parent, unwilling to follow a case plan to regain children already born, keeps getting pregnant.

I'm Catholic, so I'm right there with you . It was Mother Theresa who said, "How can there be too many children? That's like saying there are too many flowers." That doesn't mean that young girls should have sex ... but it DOES mean that advocating sterilization and birth control for all isn't a solution.
