Does your caseworker come to your house every month?
We have the case with Baby B where we are on his 3rd Case Worker in 9 months. Now the last time any case worker on THIS case has stepped foot in my house is 6 months. To top it off, only the 1st caseworker when the baby first started going to daycare went to see the daycare center and have not been there since. Is this the NORM??
On my other case my case worker tries to come every couple of months, but I have a very good relationship with her. What gives?

you need to talk to your agency about this. i'm sure your cw thinks you are agreat FP , but it is their job to keep a check on these kids. I'm sure youre not the only FP in your agency that doesn't have regular checks; the other fp may be one that needs to be checked regularly and their kids may be in a dangerous situation....IF your cw blows it off, go up the chain of command, they are getting paid to take care of these kids....

My CW comes every month, generally right before the family team meeting so she can provide input in the meeting about the kids.
My licensing worker also comes once a month as does a social worker. However, now my licensing worker and social worker are from the same agency so they are trying to coordinate their visits so they come the same time, so I don't have to make as many appointments. I'm glad they come, it gives a me a good excuse to do major cleaning on my house. I'm pretty good at picking up, but by the time I get the kids to bed, sometimes I just want to go to sleep too! I see our CW every month like clockwork. He has to see the kids every month, but my home every other month. He saw the kids in his office in November, so we'll be seeing him at the house this month.

Each and every cw for my fc comes every month. It is required of them in this area. My certifier comes every 90 days.

When kiddo was still in FC, his workers drove 4 and a half hours on a monthly basis to see him.

cw definitely is here every month. If she has not called by the 20th to schedule home visit I call her. I am lucky that it just so happens that every child placed in my home for the last two years has had the same caseworker, so we have a great working relationship. Even right now all of the children in my home have the same worker. She was here last week for everyones home visit, spent 3 1/2 hours (6pm to 9:30) and took 11 pages of notes.
If your worker is not coming out regularly I would stay on them and move up the ladder if you have to. There is no reason for them not doing there jobs. I know they get busy, but homevisits are so important for the child and you. There was a time when my first placement (family, before licensed) went through 7 cw in a year. Homevisits are non-negotiable with me, they have to make the time. You have to just stay on them to get them out to your house.

I have two different placements with two different CW. The state requirement is 1 visit every calendar month, 7/12 must be in the home. One CW has been here 8 times in 12 months and the other 6 times in 9 months. So there are about as consistant in visiting us as the bio parents are in keeping visits with the kids - coinsidence?
Maybe 60% is good enough for some. I keep track and remind on occassion. My greatest fear is that if the parents appeal the TPR and the records are pulled - willit be partially my fault that she didn't how up? Will that count as non-compliance? Will that be something that will get the parents a second (54th) chance? I'll let you know. |

My worker sees the kids 2 times per month. usually one of those visits is in my home, if by chance he hasnt seen the kids in the office then he comes to the house for both visits..
My licencing worker comes once every 3 months..I would insist they come to your home at least once a month this coveres you rear if any thing ever comes up. |

Our caseworker comes once a month or more (she or case aid does pick up/drop off for visits). If we have a specialized foster child they are here twice a month (and occasionally more for transporting court, visits, whatever).
Our licensing worker is supposed to come every six months. Last time I think it went about sixteen months, but there were a few times we went for months with no placements (they are supposed to come regardless but you know how that goes). If your case worker isn't coming when they should CALL the foster care supervisor, they may not be aware of the situation.

All of our kids workers have come at least once a month, sometimes more, always visiting the kids in our home. Our licensing worker comes every couple of months, but only if we have a placement.

Since we are going through an agency we always have two workers. Our agency worker comes at placement, at 3 days in our home, at 12 days in our home, at 30 days in our home (this is a caseplan meeting w/Supervisor too) and then once a month there after. CPS varies a bit. If a investigative worker places a child with us, we usually see her at placement and then never again. The new social worker will come within a week of being assigned to us and then quarterly. Otherwise we'll see the CPS worker at placement and then we'll see them quarterly.
We've never had a change of social workers. Our agency worker has been the same with ALL of our placements. Our CPS workers haven't changed the entire time they have been with us. We've had a lawyer change and a CASA change though. I think no visits for 6 months is definitely not normal and probably in violation of state law. A lot can happen in a foster home in 6 months, kwim?

Our workers are required to see the kiddo every month and in the home every 3 months. Our worker does do that.
Of interest.... we did have a CW that NEVER saw the child in our home and we had the kiddo almost a year. I kept track of it with our home worker via email so I had documentation. Come to find out, when they investigated, the CW was falsifying reports stating he had come to our house and other houses. Guess who is no longer with the agency? |
