Need help on something
As I have posted, we are getting 3 little ones next friday. Well what I was wondering is if anyone knows about glasses for the one child. When we had them in October the one child that wears glasses had a pair but they were so twisted and bent that every time she moves her head they fall off. So what I am wondering is will the agency help me with getting her new ones? Or at least tell me her opthamologist name so I can get her a new pair that fit her? We just feel it is not fair to her to have to wear these thigs that are always falling off. I can't imagine how she gets thru the day at school. Thanks for all the help and information ahead of time..

Does this child have medicaid? If so she may be able to get a replacement, and if it has been a year since she has been to the optometrist she may need a new prescription.

The above mentioned failing, check out your local lions club. Google it. Ermmm or an eyeglass repair person...they still have some of those shops around, check your phone book for that, I think.

in AL all foster children are on medicaid, and medicaid pays for 1 pair a year. If it isn't time for a new pair talk to the cw, she should be able to put it in the isp and the state should be able to pay for it- because it is a medical need.

Try Lenscrafters, too
FWIW i'd never bought a pair of glasses from a Lenscrafters, but i went in to look once because my frames got bad (one of the stems fell off, one of the nose pieces had come off), and while i wear contacts i like to have a backup pair of glasses. i thought they might have them fairly cheap. In speaking with the woman who asked to help me, she suggested i bring my old glasses in and they would fix them free of charge, even though i hadn't bought them there.
The put on new nose pads and a new stem. They didn't have a perfect match in the color but they did a really nice job. i remembered it later and went back to them for new glasses, which was probably their plan all along . But unless things vary widely by store or they've changed dramatically in the last few years, they might be able to fix them at cost or even for free, especially for a child in need. |

Check with the school. I know when my daughter was in kindergarten the school told me they thought she needed glasses and if we couldn't afford them they had a program that would pay for it. Yes, she needed them and yes we could afford them.

Definitely try Lenscrafters...
I used to work there and they have a full lab in the back and can fix a lot of glasses problems. If the glasses are twisted, they can heat the plastic or metal and bend it back. At least that would help the little one until you can get her some new ones.
Good luck! |

Momofthreetobe - Thank you so much for mentioning the Lions Clubs. I was a Lion for over 15 years (before having 3 babies that made it hard to go to night meetings 20 miles away).
If anyone needs glasses, hearing aids, cataract surgery or cochlear implants their local Lions Club can help if they meet the financial requirements. Likewise, if you have old glasses or hearing aids you can donate them to the Lions who will refurbish them and take them to Third World Countries each year and do a clinic to help others see and hear.

Well I talked to one CW today who couldnt tell me when she is due again for glasses. But they are beyond repair. Current FM tried the heating themup thing and fixed the front where the nose piece is, but the stem are is totally bent out, so if she moves her little head they fall of. So they are supposed to let me know on Monday. Thanks again for all the info. it is greatley appreciated.
