tonight was hard

Little Mama was in a lot of pain tonight... I had been giving her tylenol every four hours and that was no longer working. She cried for an hour straight so I gave her motrin and she finally settled down.

I am sooooo tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm happy for you...but man, I wish foster care went the way of the dinosaurs, and was never needed...that make any sense?

So Congrats! And poor wee ones.

Melissa,

I so agree, its so sad that these little babies have had to undergo so much trauma. In order to be safe they have to endure actual physical and emotional pain first..then they can get what THEY desrve...safety and security.

I also wish foster care was not a reality in this world. In order for someone to become parents babies have to suffer first! Kinda makes me sick. I am not happy anyone is becoming parents under those circumstanses but I am hapy that these kids do have somewhere safe to go to.

Unhappy hey ladies

Although I posted this as a new thread I decided to come back to you supportive few.
I may just be having a moment but I am really thinking about having these kids picked up. What made me think that I could take care of two small children. The little guy is so adorable but very very needy and it almost impossible to give him the attention he needs with the little one being in so much pain.
If they were not siblings I would keep him because I believe that I can give him what he needs which is one on one attention.

What should I do? More details in the Ladies I am in over my head thread

Pain Meds

Have you spoken with the baby's orthopedic surgeon about her pain level? She probably should be seen, as the cast may be pinching and need to be adjusted. Or she may need some stronger meds than Tylenol or Motrin. I'm assuming she has a spiral fracture, since that is usually the type of break that automatically implies abuse. Is she in a spica cast, or is it just a regular cast? If it's a regular cast, you can still "wear" her in a baby sling--you just have to face her outward.

If you need any tips on cast care, please don't hestitate to PM me. I have LOADS of experience in that area, unfortunately...

If I were you, I'd go ahead and call the doctor. If he's not on call this weekend, one of his colleagues will answer the call. Docs get phone calls all the time on the weekends about lack of pain control. Don't hesitate to call him if the baby is in so much pain that she's crying for hours at a time.

I also think her scratching her face and pulling her hair may be due to the pain she's experiencing. It's really common for babies to do this if they're hurting.

Good luck. I know how tired you're feeling right now. It's hard...
