Grant $$ to fix up house???

We just finished renovating our house over the summer. It was a huge renovation and took almost 2 years to complete. The original plan was that if we had left over money, we would convert the attic to either a super huge play/rec room and storage, or to a huge master suite with a bathroom and of course storage. We did the renovations before we even thought of foster care.

Anyway, in casual conversation at PRIDE yesterday, we were talking to our trainer and said something like,

"we can only take 2 kids max because we only have one extra bedroom. Otherwise we might take more.

We have this huge attic, but ran out of money to convert to bedrooms when we just recently fixed up our house"

So, during this casual conversation, our trainer said, "well, maybe you can get a rehab grant to do the project."

Since I am still very new to the process, I of course knew nothing about this.

Any insight???? I know it might vary from state to state - we are in NJ.

PS - obviously if we did the renovation, it would be bedrooms and a rec area, not a master suite. lol

the one in MA is income based and not all towns offer it. It's not for foster care, just assistance for those who need home repairs but can't afford them. I don't think they would cover expanding your home for a foster child or anything like that, but you could check into it. It's a similar program to HUD.

Good Luck...DH and I WAY don't qualify. We could have a family of 8 on his salary and we would still make too much
