Child died of starvation

Hi all I am a foster parent and have posted here lots of time before for ideas, etc. this time I need some Help to understand how a foster child could get taken away from me and put into grandma and aunts home and he literally starved to death..... Today would have been his 5th bday and he only weighed 19lbs when he died..... The media is trying to say it was drugs and blame DHS but I dont think either of that was to blame I just cant understand how a GRANDMOTHER and AUNT could do that to their own blood. This proves the theory that Family is always best not true.... if anyone would like to read about the case it is on wlbt.com the childs name is Austin Watkins....
Thank You for any help and advice...
Kim

OMG!! Poor little man had to suffer like that. This is why to me DNA means nothing when an innocent child is at remotely at risk of not being cared for or kept safe.
Shame on those people who saw the little one tied up and said nothing. they IMO are guilty as well.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am in tears here.

What gets me is all the loopholes, scrutiny and investigating foster parents have to go through, these babies are handed back top relatives with minimal scrutiny just because they are relatives. Same thing happened in MA when the 2 kids died in a fire that was intentionally set by the biomoms girlfriend. Those kids were supposed to be with bioGma but she used to sneak them over biomoms house and lie. CPS should have been a lot more on the ball and checking up more.
I just think relatives should be investigated and checked up on a little more. Just because someone might pass a background check only means they were good at what they did and just never got caught.
OK rant off. I just get so heated when children are made to suffer.

This is just an outrage. I can not fathom any human being being able to do anything of the kind. There are definately more than the relatives to blame here. These are senseless deaths. It breaks my heart in two to ever have to read about these happenings. My only saving grace in reading this is that that little child is safe in God's arms and whole and well again.

They are really big on reunification/kinship now. Because the children are placed with family, and two pre-announced home visits were done, children seem okay so they close the case. Simple as that. Because of the economy and lack of staffing this is what It was come to. I think in that case they should at least do the same background checks on kinship like they do for Foster/adopt parent.

I know your heart is broken and I am so sorry. I can not understand how anyone can do that to a child. There is something SO wrong with a person that harms a child, especially such harm til death. THere is never an excuse. How sad.

Holy God, This is so sickening. I will say it again whoever knew what was going on and did nothing about it, is just as guilty. As for the Gma and Aunt, the death penalty would be too easy for them. They need to be made to suffer the consequences of there actions, both here and the after life.
That little one suffered horribly and by the looks of the aunt and Gma , it doesn't appear that that it was a case of being poor and not having food in the house. This was calculated and intentional.
I cannot stop thinking about this little guy, it is so heartbreaking.
I hurt for the foster parent OP too. I am sure he was well loved and cared for while in her care.

I hope these murders know that they won't be recieving 10K anytime in this life.
