HELP!!!! The house has been sold!!!!
Hi, All!!!
Just as the headline reads, the house I currently live in has been sold. I'm renting a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom home and the owner sold it. I mean, I had the option to buy and I declined, but he nor I anticipated a quick sale. The new owners are coming on Sunday and they want to take possession of the house by 01/01/09. Not a problem, but..... NEITHER of my adoptions are final and I REFUSE to move twice... remember I was supposed to be relocating to NC in March... Neither I nor my landlord anticipated a quick sale. I just can't see myself moving somewhere else in Maine to allow B's adoption to be completed just to move again once it's done... I'm not going to do it. I spoke to my licensing worker today and she said that it's happened before and not to panic... they wouldn't make me leave him here... I'm just worried though... What to do??? What to do??? Help, friends... JDs adoption was supposed to be finalized this coming Saturday, but when NJ sent the consent, it was sent back because MAINE had NOT sent the 100A... the 100A was requested by NJ LAST November... but New Jersey sent me an email today saying that they received an email from interstate saying that the signed and approved 100A was on the way ![]() So, it's just B I am worried about.... Has anyone ever encountered this? B's caseworker's supervisor said that she had and as long as the adoption was imminent, then she didn't see a problem with it. She said that it is rare, but it happens from time to time. I just don't want to lose my little boy on a technicality, but I don't want to waste the money to move twice... HELP!!!

We got our daughter and had to wait 6 months to make the adoption final. My husband got a job offer you just don't turn down. We were so worried, but everyone was so nice about us moving and taking her with us. They just transfered the case to the CPS department where we moved and everything continued along. We did go back to the original city to finalize because we wanted to use the same judge that had been over her whole case! We did not have to do that we could have finalized here! Don't worry I really think it will be no big deal!! Good luck with the move and both adoptions!!

What about asking your lawyer or the county attorney to get permission from the judge to leave; then come back to Maine to finalize?

Do you have a lease or is it a month to month?
If you have a lease, I think the new owner has to abide by it or the old owner might be responsible for some of your expenses. I'd talk with a lawyer about what your rights are in this situation.

Thanks for all the advice so far. My lease ran out in September and I didn't renew because I knew that I would break it, so we agreed to a month to month. I'm okay with the fact that the house has been sold... I just have to move sooner than anyone expected... I'm worried...

We you just waiting for the finalizations before moving to NC? If so, why not look into getting permission to move out of state with the adoption pending?
Hope everything goes smoothly! Sam

ok...this is my new field of expertise. lol. we moved from CA to TN, 3 months before we could file for finalization...but tpr had already happend and we have been approved to adopt baby A. CA filed for an icpc, tn accepted, and we all moved together. next came the hard part...each state has their own idea of what they want to happen before they will tell the sending state they approve your home. what you need to find out is what your new state will want of you before you make a decision, because you may decide moving twice IS easier. lol. in tn, they decided everything we had done- path classes, background checks, references, physicals for everyone, EVERYTHING we had JUST done maybe a month before we moved, had to be re-done. so here we are, the baby IS with us, so that is good, but we are re-doing it ALL. and tn actually requires more than ca EVER did...so it is alot of work! it is frustrating....had i known it would be like this, i would have stayed. if we had stayed in ca, we could have filed to adopt 2 weeks ago, and dates come up fast, so most likely we would have finalized this week. now....we will not finish with path until january, tn then says they have 90 days to decided if they will approve our home or not, then they get another 30 days to communicate that to CA, and only then can we file to finalize. we HOPE to finalize by this summer. we will be returning to CA to finalize, be that is where all our family is, but it doesn't matter...r.egardless of where we finalize, tn would have required all of this. it is a mess. who knew? not me, that's for sure! man i wish i would have stayed! we also get no foster care stipend for him while we wait, because we are not licensed in our new state. if you have any questions for me, let me know. my best advice is to ask the new state all your questions, because they will be the ones to hold your life in their hands.
good luck! |

Maybe you could put most of your stuff in storage until you are ready to move out of state. Keep the basics that way it wont feel as much as moving twice just living with less stuff for a bit.

Our CW was just recently talking at a PRIDE class about sending kiddos out of state, but finalizing by conference call on adoption day. So, I would recommend pursuing moving, not do an ICPC, but just come back or call for the finalization.

When my sister moved from NC to Arkansas before the adoption was completed, NC had her to sign a form and they took away her foster subsidy. When she got her adoption decree it took another 3 0r 4 months before she received her adoption subsidy, which she received in a lump sum payment.

We moved to Montana from California last fall. T's tpr had already happened we were waiting on his original birth certificate and the contested tpr judgement to finalize. He was put into guardianship with us so we could move. We just recently finalized and had to go back to California to do it. Maybe this is an option for you.

We had decided to move before we knew that our then foster son was going to be tpr'd. Mom relinquished the father was unknown and the attorney pushed the adoption thru so that we adopted 29 days after the tpr. It helped that the judge knew us pretty well and that mom's attorney was the same attorney who had just handled our other sons adoption. They used the same homestudy. I would see if there is a way that the adoption can be pushed up.

Is the person you've had trouble with in any way involved in this decision? If so, then I would start looking for a temporary place to stay until you can finalize. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I know how much you love JD. When I was having all the issues with my CW, my SW told me to toe the line and kiss butt because the CW was just looking for anything and everything in order to remove my daughter and cause major drama.

I agree with a PP, you've had B for a year, I would think they could move your adoption date up to sometime before Christmas.
Good luck!
