How is an adoption finalized?

Maybe I didn't ask the right question in my lost post! I am mainly asking how an adoption is finalized. Now that we are entering the adoption phase, what all is going to occur from now until I sign on those doted lines.

Thanks!

We finalize our adoption next Friday! Hooray. We will be going before the juvenile court judge in order to finalize. From the time adoptive placement began, we had monthly visits with our agency. They sent the placement reports to CPS. After about 4 months, CPS started in on the finalization paperwork. Our attorney handled the rest. (I have a GREAT attorney recommend if you are interested.) I am pretty sure that you are in my area, working through the same agency, if I remember right. This attorney is on their list and he is awesome. He has gotten everything rolling right along AND he takes payment directly from CPS. (No laying out $1500 up front and hoping to get reimbursed.)

Please feel free to PM if you are interested in the name. And definitely STICK TO YOUR GUNS about the two years. You are so in control of the situation. Make sure that little girl gets every benefit that is available to her.

Good Luck!

Well we go to court, are sworn in and the lawyer asks us a few questions. Then the judge signs the papers, we take a picture of everyone including the judge and that's it.

I have a meeting with our new CPS worker Monday. I was wondering too if she really has a big role or if she just kind of a name on the case. What does she do to help with the adoption? It's sad because my clinician doesn't know ANYTHING! I feel like there is no one there to explain anything to me!

So do you think we can really finalize in April or is it more likely they will drag it out further?

Thank you for your replys!

Just to let you know we are in the same boat as you now!! We were told 3-6 months until we finalize. In the kid's state, they have Caseworkers assigned just for adoptions so we are waiting to talk to her. I think it is a matter of filling out adoption paperwork and waiting on bureaucracy...and that final court date. I hope you guys get it done sooner than later!!! Keep us posted.
