Continuing Education Classes???

Our state (Florida) requires continuing education for foster parent licensure... we have some credits from courses offered by our agency but since we both work full time jobs the classes they offer are mostly during the workday.

We still need about ten EACH...

I have found only two online classes, each are about 8 dollars per class. To take what we need it will be over $150.

This just for the classes... we have to get physicals too and our copayments are $25 ... so its really adding up to renew our license.

Does anyone know of any FREE online courses to take?

Thank you,
Suzy

TPR continuance granted for procedural reasons.
Removed from our home with no notice and placed in other foster home with siblings.
Retained attorney to request change of placement back to our home.
Granted "participant" status - hearings in process to return Little Buddy to our home as non relative care givers.
Three hearings: our reputation and good name raked over the coals. State agency incompetency prevails overall evidence. (Just disgusted)
Judge ruled : remain in current placement. Indicated she didn't want to disrupt him anymore and that likely return to biological mother within two months.
Will not renew my Foster Care agreement.
My heart is broken. Grieving the loss of a child as if he had died suddenly.

My agency accepts these from FCAC, but be sure to ask your agency. Each county/state is different.

Foster Parents Community and Online Training and click on the tab at the top that says "online training." These course are not free, but cheap. They are approximately $2 per hour of credit. So 10 hours of credit would be $20.

You can also take online classes here: FosterClub.org | for Grownups - Online Training. I am pretty sure that these are free.

This one SocialLearning.com, Foster Parent College offers courses for $8.

Be careful because your agency may require that a certain percentage of your classes be done in person. My agency requires that we attend classes for 50 percent of our training ourse. The other 50 percent can be online.

Since we almost always have kiddos, and therefor finding childcare to even go to trainings is tough, our licensing worker has been great about sending us these FCSN (foster care support network) training packet things. We read through them (topics are great, July's was about delinquency and gangs, Augusts was about autism awareness), answer the questions, and each one counts for I believe a half hours worth of training. They're free of charge to us through our county and obviously we can do them on our own time which is great!

I'm not sure how you'd go about getting set up to recieve them, maybe ask your worker to look into FCSN's training packets?

See if your agency lets you watch videos. Our agency just gave us a packet with a bunch of resources online to do our training hours. One that looks promising is Department of Social and Health Services, DSHS, Washington State Under the Foster Parenting Tab there are Online Training Videos that cover things like Fetal Alchohol Syndrome, Love and Logic, Domestic Violence, Behavioral Challenges. Some of the videos are 1 hour and some are up to 6 hours!!! There are also interactive trainings on that website, under Fosterparentscope Training, with more options. Good Luck!
