Question about Placement Calls

How often do you guys get placement calls when you are full? I am full (according to both my license and the space in my house) and today I got a call for a 3 day old, straight from the hospital, which I had to turn down. I am so sad about that! Just wondered how often this happens to others?

Never happens here! We had no placements for a year and now we only have a 6yr old. I would love to have that baby. Of course if I would take large sib groups, more than one in diapers and extreme cases I would probably be full.

we are listed as emergency/respite only. Our agency called last month for a foster placement. The child ended up not coming anyway I was surprised that I was so overjoyed to get the call since I did ask for respite only. We're thinking about just going full-time foster again. We haven't had a placement in about 2 years and I sorta' miss it.
But...they were probably just going down the list calling everybody to see who would take the baby without looking at circumstances. Sometimes DSS just wants a home-anyhome.

I know most homes are really full here. I got my first placement when they called to say my license was approved to be issued (a little over two months ago). I haven't even gotten my actual license in the mail yet.

Newly licensed and NO placement yet... I was told that they have a certain lady who takes emergency placements in my county...so I guess they don't send to a pre-adoptive homes until they have gone to court and know what the birth parent's need to do.

Waiting on a baby here....

it happens here all the time. we have one poor cw that makes all the placement calls if they are during reg. business hours. we have 30 foster homes and looking at the sheet only 2 or 3 say they are available ( and they are age limited ones) She knows i am full, and she called me desperate 2 times on friday wanting me to take teen agers.....knowing my age is 0-3 yrs only. i think they just get desperate and call everyone hoping to get a "bite"

In our FL counties we have a "placement office" that calls whether we are full, out of town, not taking kids, already said no to a certain child, and/or out of our age range. We only are in-state part time so prefer short term and infants but have had children clear up to 8 because of "emergencies". I learned the hard way that if I say no - there is the next name on the list. And thier emergencies seem to be that they don't want to dial the phone. I've taken emergencies (the 6 & 8 yo's) and argued for 2 (almost 3) months that they need to be moved before finally just putting my foot down and telling them to find a place or they would be at the office with thier belongings. It doesn't do to have a soft heart with some of these guys. I even got a "reprimand" of sorts via my licensing worker because I refused a 6 yo for respite on the grounds that she was out of my "range" (altho' I knew the child from association meetings and I wouldn't trust her in my home!). The placement worker felt that I have a negative impact on the system.... LOL... Of course, I still have my license, just renewed, but don't know if I'm going to do care when we return this year. I just think I'm to burnt with all the bs going around.

Good luck....
