Foster Care Review Board

We are in Michigan. Has anyone heard of having a Foster Care Review Board hearing after TPR.

We are in the process of adopting a sib group which was TPR'd a few months ago. We have had two review board hearings since they have been in our care. There was a third one scheduled for March, right about the time of the TPR hearing. The third hearing never took place. We assumed that because the case was being TPR'd there was no further hearings needed. Now that they have been TPR'd and we have been told we can adopt them the board is calling a new hearing.

Does anyone have any expericence with this?

I am in Michigan too... after TPR and before adoption finalization we received a letter about a Foster Care Review Board hearing. When I called to ask about it, they said they wouldn't actually have the hearing since TPR had already happened. Not sure where the lack of or delay in communication was, but nothing ever came of it.

The foster care reviews (FCR) are required for states to get federal funding. They are supposed to happen every six months so long as the child is in state custody - so they should still happen between TPR and adoption. But once TPR happens, they are usually a piece of cake. Before TPR I had two FCR and they both focused on what parents were or were not doing. After TPR I just showed pictures of him, talked about how great he is and we went through the service plan so that the review board could report that everything was moving along just fine.

that's how i understood it too. after our tpr hearing, we had a review hearing about 6 weeks later. it was already scheduled, the hearing went as planned, and basically it was just to update everyone on the status of the child. at that time, the foster care worker was able to transfer our case to the adoptions unit.

Maybe I'm confused...

We had the "review hearings" every 3 or 6 months (gosh, I forget!), but the "Foster Care Review Board hearing" we were going to have was something different that didn't happen to all cases and that's what we didn't have because TPR had occurred and we were heading towards adoption.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the input.

We go today. I feel better about going after hearing your replies. I hope it really is a piece of cake.

I was just worried because the last meeting didn't happen in March. So I thought they didn't do them after TPR.

Thanks everyone!!! It all went great. The board complimented my husband and me on how great the children are doing. They also seemed impressed that we answered more questions about the children and their case (including their history) than their cw did.
