cocaine

Found out today that is what my fkids mom is abusing. How hard is it to kick? They are doing random drug tests and she has passed the last 3. I'm wondering if this is a drug that they do good for awhile and then they crash and go back? Anyone have any experience with cocaine users? She is going to therapy once a week for 3 weeks starting tomorrow and then 3 times a week for the next 9 weeks..at least that is what she is supposed to do.

My FSs bmom has been an addict for a long time. In our 2+ years of working with her, she's never provided a clean drug screen.

It partially depends what type she's doing -- crack is MUCH more addictive than powder cocaine. I personally know three people who kicked the cocaine habit (one used crack, one snorted, and I think the other was freebasing), and all had to move away from where they were living in order to get clean. As long as the person is around the people they were using with, and/or within easy reach of their dealer, it's very hard to quit.

Roller coaster

Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster of sobriety, using, downhill and going to jail, rehab, sobriety, using, etc. At least that has been the case for bio-grandmother for the last ten years. Each cycle lasts about two years (six months sobriety and working well, using, then either dealing or burglary, jail, rehab, sobriety) from sobriety to sobriety is about two years for this person.

In my case both parents were crack addicts for over fifteen years. Mom worked the streets while hubby was in jail. They both went to rehab and were tested once a month. Always clean. If they were using and sometimes i thought they were, they always tested clean. Cocaine only last two days in your system. And if they know around the time they are going to be tested they can fool cps. One SW wanted to change the testing to hair samples because it remains longer in the hair. Wouldn't that be great. Bio parents did get my little Angel back after 2 yrs. Hope all works out for the best.

Now I'm confused.. the advocates report that she gave me today said when they were taken the first time they tested positive for meth. So I don't know if they were on meth then changed to cocaine or if they were on both.

I don't know how hard cocaine is to kick. My FD's mom uses multiple drugs, including cocaine. She has gone back to using two separate times since my FD was born, and she is only 7 months old. We are not sure how long ago the first set back was, because the clinic she was going to did not notify DCF about the positive tests. Our DCF area can't order drug testing for some reason.

Cocaine, is a hard one as it is more of a binge drug. Though it is not physically addictive it is very addictive physcologically. With addicts I have worked with they have been dually addicted to heroin and cocaine, but they say that the cocaine was easier to kick as long as they stood away from it and it's triggers( friends and accessibility). It is also the kind of drug that a person can stay off of. As far as testing clean then using again, while it is very possible, I would have to say that if someone was really in the thoughs of using it would be impossible to stay away from it for 72 hours. So that is a good sign if they were able to test clean 3 times. But, the true telling would be 3 months down the line if they are consistantly yeilding clean tests. Clients have told me that the longer they are able to the stay away from it the easier it gets.

I did find out that the first time they took the kids was April 7 and they were returned on May 17 and then taken again on July 2.
I'm just really scared she will stay clean long enough to get them back and then will start using again and then they will get pulled a 3rd. time and chances are we will have other placements by then and they will go to more strangers.

Meth and cocaine have very similar effects (though with meth the high lasts much longer). Some people will move back and forth between the two drugs depending on availability.

I have heard there are things people can take to make a test come out clean even if they have been using ... I think it was massive doses of B12.

JS uses crack, meth, and gawd knows what else and did at least up until 5 months along. J is clean though and at least at this point seems to have not been effected by it. The father is a crack user and dealer though, the paternal grandmother of J is also a user and dealer, JS uses and possibly deals ... .

I agree though; it takes them leaving where they used and not going back. But more than that, I think they must WANT to get clean. Sadly my (formerly) beautiful niece JS does not want that for herself

EZ2luv,
Hope you can help me with a few questions. Is it true about the B-12 to pass the test? Also bmom was to stay away from her moms house and kids were not allowed there because one uncle is drunk everyday another uncle uses drugs. Now that case is closed I found out that bmom spends all weekend there. Does this jepordize her staying sober?
Thanks Henderfive
