How much to pay a baby-sitter?

Hi,

I am wondering (since I've never had a sitter before) how much you guys pay a sitter for occasional baby-sitting?

Thanks!
Ariah

I am in the Denver metro area and $10/hour seems the going rate for an adult babysitter. After wondering and worrrying the best advice I have received is ask the person what they charge. I have a friend who won't take any more than $40 for a whole day.

We are getting ready to pay a teenage girl to watch our kids on a sat. probably about 6 hours for 3 kids 2 hours of it will fall at nap time and we are going to pay her $40.
On the flip side I work part time still so my 18 year old daughter watches the kids 2 days a week for me while I'm at work and we are paying her $50 a week for those 2 days.

I pay $10.00 an hour for a sitter to watch my 3 and 4 year old occasionally. If they use there own car to take them to the park or an event, It goes to $11.00 to cover the gas expenditure.

How long does it take for your sitters to pass their background checks, or do you use licensed sitters?

How do you all get the occasional sitter to LET you pay them? None of my sitters will let me. Guess I shouldn't complain.

Wow, I need to move to a rural area...I pay $15.00 an hour for my three boys for a hourly sitter (when I can't use grandma to watch them) and for my youngest I pay $140 a week for full time care in a licensed daycare (it was $200 but I switched sitters.)

I love threads like this that give me a better idea of what to pay as we don't use a babysitter all that often.
