There is hope..our new almost 4 year old girl E has been with us for 2 weeks as of today. Every night since we she came to us when we announced bed time she would throw a fit. At first just a wimpery whine ..which I hate worst than screaming tantrum.. those didn't work so she got louder and more more physical. She would thrash around in her bed like a fish out of water and scream so loud you thought your ears would bleed we have just been ignoring her 2 nights ago it was a doozy screams so loud I thought for certain the neighbors would call the police so we took another approach and I said oh look E is throwing a good fit tonight and my husband said oh yes hey do that flippy thing you do that's funny she instantly stopped and looked at us like we were stupid and said no I wont so we then said oh yes do it do it so then she started throwing a tantrum saying she was not going to do it. Well her last fit lasted for 45 min. straight once again we didn't go in and just let her be. She never leaves her bed when she does these so thats helpful. Tonight miracle of miracles I did the normal in 15 min. its bedtime count down which normally would start the wimpering and whining but she just said ok tonight and when we went to bed 15 min. later she walked right in and laid down and said good night. I was shocked I told her how proud I was of her and how we were going to tell my DH tomorrow when he is home (he works nights) she was so proud of herself she was all smiles said I did good? Now I have to come up with a big surprise for tomorrow to reinforce that behavior. I'm going to make a huge deal about it all day tomorrow and hope that tomorrow night will go just as well. So hang in there and it can get better but if you give in just once they know they can win. I would also suggest watching some nanny 911 episodes they will give you strength in knowing you are doing the right thing by not giving to tantrums. Good luck
