Question Logical consequences - how far can you go when fostering?

Say your child leaves their hat at school and it's 30 degrees out - do you send them to the bus stop the next day with a bare head? If it were my child, I would, but with fostering, can you do this?

i would like to know what people think too..or is it an agency thing?
or 17yofs wanted to wear a sweatshirt all winter, too 'cool' for a coat. we made sure he had a winter coat, told him once he should wear it, then let him freeze. but he was 17.

Perhaps you can implement natural consequences in a different way - give the child another hat to wear, but have them do extra chores to make money to pay for the hat. First one is given - second one is worked for.

My agency has always supported doing what is age appropriate.

Forgetting their hat and it's freezing but they are 2nd grade or younger... I'd put a hat on them and pin a note to their jacket to remind them and the teacher to send it home.

Forgetting their hat and it's freezing but they are 17yrs... let 'em freeze their ears.

C was told the other night it was time to eat. By the time he left the PS2 to come eat the items he really liked were gone and all that was left was things that he doesn't really want... you know, like green beans. He pitched a fit, was asking to make something else like a Hot Pocket. He was told "no". The consequence for not coming to the table until 15minutes after being told.

This past winter I had a girl refuse to wear a coat because she was "too cool". When school was over she called complaining it was so cold (BOY.... it was too!) and wanted me to drive over to pick her up instead of walking the 4 blocks to my work. I told her "no" then called everyone in the order she would have called alerting them all they are not to give her a ride, which included her worker. They all agreed. Next day... she wore the coat.

C refuses to wear a coat too... but he's so hot blooded in the winter we close all the heating vents in his room and he cracks a window. He loves it cold as a meat locker!

Whenever I have a consequence with a child that might be questioned by the school, child, or their parent I send a quick email or call to the worker letting them know what transpired. I've never been unreasonable and the workers have always agreed.

It's kinda funny how cw give the bparents plenty of opportunity to do stupid things without any further consequence but they expect the children to learn natural consequences for actions.

Dumb butt here had only bought one (really cool, with a skeleton with light-up eyes) hat for him. When he left it at school the very first day, I hadn't learned yet to just buy a bunch of cheap ones. So we went back to the store (in the snow) that night and bought another but I really wanted to just send him without! Knowing him, he would have said to his mom at his visit, "Miss Lisa made me go to school with no hat on and I was so cold."

I love the idea of logical consequences but am just leery of implementing with foster kids.

One of our fkids REFUSED to wear the gloves, hat, scarf. I made sure she put them on in the house, but at the bus stop she threw them all on the ground. I called the school and her teachers agreed with me to that the logical consequence would be freezing cold hands, ears. It was probably 20 degrees and she was in first grade, but what was I to do, glue them onto her?
