Maryland - Respite Care Only?
I could ask my SW, but I thought maybe some of you would know. I received paperwork a few weeks ago about Maryland beginning to offer more respite care and will have respite care providers. Do you think that means we can just do respite care? My license is still active, but I have been placed on hold because I have some medical issues going on with my in-laws. I have a lot of appts with them and I am afraid if I take on a foster child right now and trying to fit in all of their appts it would be too much, but I could do respite. Any thoughts?

In Texas you can request to only do respite care. you should call and inquire about it. Might work out for the best right now.

It could be that your local agency would love for you to be able to provide respite. I do know that finding licensed providers who are willing to do respite care can be quite challenging.

We recently ended a long-term placement and told our county DCFS that we want to do emergency only and respite only placements. They said, "Great!"
We got an 8mo old baby girl on Thursday and will have her til Monday morning. It has been fun AND we know when our next break is coming (something you never know with a regular placement). It was just as simple and calling and telling them. They flagged it in the computer and we get a call about once every two weeks and we decide if it fits into our plans and limitations. Kim
