How accurate are reunification goals?

I was just wondering if the CW's time line for reunification is very accurate. I saw someone post that their FC was due to go back home in Oct. That seems so far away to predict a reunification. How accurate are the CW's when they assume a child will go back home?

They aren't accurate.... and NO ONE can guess how long things will go one before the judge determines to seek TPR or reunify. I have seen children who had TPR started after about 6 months because parents had already had other children removed years ago and had been through services before and I have seen children who have been in the system 3 YEARS and were still not headed to TPR yet.

They have guidelines and most are set up on a 12 month reunification plan. If the parents work really hard it can take less time, but if they wait till month 11 to do anything the judge may extend the time by 6 months to another year. It all depends on the circumstances, reason for removal, and the mood of the judge or which judge you get.

So please take the caseplan with a grain of salt.

i can only talk from the experienced case....

my daughter was 11 when she moved in with me. By the time she was 12 TPR happened (not as predicted) and by 13 her adoption was final. Her goal was reunification til the very end.

As everything I think it sort of depends on the case. If there is a parent who steps up and does what is asked for the caseplan then I think the SWs can say "yep at the 6 month mark we'll ask for this child to go to the parent" ... if however parent(s) is being flakey and doing little or none or inconsistant things with teh case plan then I think their predictions are bogus.

but that is just my observation.
