emergency placement
I have a quick question , Has anyone ever adopted a child/children who came to them as an emergency placement?

No, but my emergency placement has turned into a 6 month placement and in April the judge said he will start terminating parental rights at the July hearing if no progress has been made. The parents were doing VERY little up to that point and since having the judge rip into them in April, dad's homestudy was denied and we have not seen either show up for a one hour visit in over 3 weeks now...........so I see TPR paperwork being started in July.
So never assume an emergency placement couldn't turn into a TPR especially considering what all is considered an emergency placement. Was this kid(s) removed from their home emergently or from another foster home where they had been awhile or what? It all is a factor. Kim

"Brandon" was an emergency placement who was only supposed to stay for one night. It's been 9 months and now looking like adoption. They are hoping Mom will relinquish this summer to avoid a TPR trial. "Angel" was an emergency placement. She eventually went to TPR but a paternal aunt took custody. So, she WOULD have been available for adoption by me if the aunt hadn't stepped forward. So, it was a case of an emergency placement becoming available for adoption. "Faith" was an emergency placement and had to be moved to another foster home to be with her brother. Because of the home situation and age of bio parents & lack of extended family, it was looking like a very long term placement with possibility of adoption. "Georgia" is an emergency placement but should reunite with her family in a few months.

My dd was emergency placement. The sw that droped her off said it would be a month or two till a fost/adopt home was found. When her perm sw came to our home the next week, we asked if we could be her fost/adopt home. She said she would see, but then the following week she was getting open heart surgery and the sw said if we still wanted her we can be her fost/adopt home, becouse with her medical needs-there was no way anyone would want a baby that could die, but we did, we loved her the day she arrived. She came at 2days old and we adopted her 10 months later.

My two sons were emergency placements that were to remain with us one week. Yesterday we celebrate 3 years that they have been with us. Their adoption was finalized in November, 2007.

thanks, I have a emergency placement (2yrs), she came on last sunday morning @ 2:30 am. The sw said it looks like she will be in foster care for 12mths, if none of her family members step up to take care of her.

It seems like every time they send us another emergency placement the cw tells us that this will be a long term case...then the kids end up leaving in less than 8 weeks, sometimes less than 1 week. You never can tell and as we've found out, neither can the cw.
