6 weeks have passed since TPR

We have made it 6 weeks since TPR on both parents. (BioMom surrendered while BioDad never showed for court, so the Judge terminated him)
It's been a LONG 6 weeks with us worried about BioDad filing an appeal, but we haven't heard a word and neither has the CW. I'm assuming no news is good news........
Does anyone know how much longer it should take before the adoption process will begin?
And after that has started, how much time would pass before finalization?
I'm just anxious to get to that point.........

No answers, but congraulations! I remember your post - and it sure doesn't feel like 6 weeks ago :-) I'm sure waiting out the window for appeal is pretty tense - glad it's over!

Tallulah, I thought the appeals period was only 30 days (at least that is what it is in my state). Once Judge has approved the TPR then the bio's have 30 days to appeal and if you get no response than they are considered terminated. Then I believe they will start the adoption process.

Check with your cw, to see what's going on.

We are kind of in the same boat. Mom relinguished on April 10th and dad was TPRd on the 14th. We are in Texas and they only have 30 days after a TPR to appeal. Is there a mandatory waiting period in your state? We are in Texas and there is a 90 day waiting period for family to come forward (this is a statue, not a law), however, the judge waived it in our case. We are just waiting for someone to contact us, so we can move forward.

I have a close friend, who children had TPR back in Januray and they are still waiting to adopt. I'm hoping that ours goes a lot faster than theirs. Good luck!

in CA, my worker said they could file for the adoption on the 61st day, if there were no appeals, and then it was just a matter of everything getting filed and scheduled. as long as they have been in your home 6 months already, it could be pretty quick!

hey, if parents relinquish, is there still an appeals period? i have NO idea....hoping someone else does.

30 days is how long BioDad had for an appeal. Now we are waiting to start adoption process. I was wondering when the adoption process would start? How long after TPR does this usually start? And how long until finalization?

I think it varies WIDELY based on many factors. We were told ours is a very easy case to finalize... it will still take about 4 - 7 months according to our worker!

I live in Texas they have 30 days from date the judge signs paperwork...so if judge did not actually SIGN on day of TPR they have additional days. Our attorney told us to wait 45days just to be on the safe side. We did...and no appeals. We were set up with an adoption-prep worker. We have to have another home-study and fill out ALOT of paperwork. Our worker told us that the amount of time it takes to finalize depends on fast we get all our paperwork turned in. But the minimum would be 3 months. We are sure to get that paperwork in within 1-2 days after we get it! Waiting is what stinks!
