Two girls arriving Friday - nervous

I am a little nervous about the girls arriving on Friday for a number of reasons:
#1) They are a lot older than what I am used to (one is 12 and one is 9).
#2) The 9 year old has some medical issues. In fact, I need to take classes on how to treat her (shots, medication, etc.), which is why they can't be placed here until Friday. Friday is my last appointment with the nurse who is training me.
#3) The 9 year old also has a history of being very defiant and has been removed from foster homes in the past for behavior issues.

The reason I said "yes" to the girls is because when I first got the call, the in-take worker didn't have a lot of information on them. She just told me a 12 and 9 year old needed a home. I thought to myself, "this will be a challenge because they are older than what I am used to, but I think I can do it," so I accepted the call. It wasn't until the next day that I was informed of the other issues, but at that point my heart was already open to these specific girls, so I didn't want to change my mind.

Part of me is really excited about having older girls here. I love shopping and doing hair, so I am certainly looking foward to girly activities like that, but I also am aware of the fact that these girls are older and have been through a lot. They probably will not be as happy to be here as I am about them being here.

Good luck.

My first thought is that the in-take worker knew they are problem kids (since they have been in care for a while), and just didn't want to give you the info. They manipulated you right to where they wanted you.

Good Luck! Just because a child has behavior issues in one home does not necessarily mean that they will have issues in your home. Every home and family dynamics is different. I agree they should have told you this since they are kids that have been in the system, they had all this information and didn't disclose to you but it's kinda late now.

What are the ages and sexes of your 3 kids? I think that is where the problem may lie.

It now looks like these girls may be placed somewhere else. Apparently the younger sister's health issues may be too complicated for me to handle. This is not my choice. I would actually like to give this a try, but as the worker received more info on these girls over the last few days, she started to think that these girls may thrive in a home where there aren't too many young children.
