News Article about FLDS kids entering foster care

I was reading this article: FLDS kids entering TX foster care

and was irritated by this part:
Quote:
In contrast, many other children in foster care have a certain worldly swagger, and are there because they have used drugs or committed other crimes.
What on Earth?! I'd like to smack the writer.

I'm also wondering how they came up with this idea:
Quote:
The children have been educated in a schoolhouse, using a home-school curriculum, on the compound, and may actually be ahead of public-school students their ages, lawyers said.

Hays and Pulliam said the children will continue to be home-schooled by the temporary foster-care providers instead of being thrown into big schools, where they could be bullied because of their differences.
I'm trying to imagine these foster parents and group homes suddenly being thrust into the role of homeschooling parent for a bunch of kids at advanced levels of education. Can you imagine trying to determine where these kids are at academically and be able to provide a good homeschool education for them on the spur of the moment? And I'll bet that it doesn't change the pay rate for these foster families either. Just the work load.

Glad I don't live in TX right now,
Jess

I just read the article you linked to in your post, but I didn't see anything resembling the quote you posted about other foster kids in care due to drug use or commiting crimes. Did I miss something?

Same here. I didn't see that quote either. Weird, huh? I wonder if it was removed? Or it was in another article, maybe?

I just re-read it. They totally changed it! They even changed the part about possibly being ahead of other kids their age due to homeschooling. I guess that was offensive, too. And they added the part at the end about the Colorado woman.

They probably got tons of complaints would be my guess. You know who ever wrote that garbage got in big trouble.
