Cease Reunification

Hey Everyone,

Went to court this week and the judge granted to cease reunification efforts due to parents inability to parent. What is next in the process?

I am hoping to adopt my little one soon!
Thanks

I am assuming in court they changed to the goal to TPR/Adoption. They will start TPR proceedings. Hopefully it will be quickly.

They are hoping the parents voluntarily relinquish before the next court date. Once cease reunification is established does the court still pay for them a lawyer?

Yes they will still continue to have Legal Council appointed to them and they can always contest the ruling. Even though services for reunification have been ceased they still maintain their parental rights and are entitled to visitations. If they don't contest the termination of services then things will move forward towards TPR which they will still have their attorneys to fight. If TPR is ruled for the parents will still have a right to appeal that and often times visitations will even continue until all the appeals are over and the TPR is official. That's usually when you can start the adoption process.
