Poll: House Size vs. # of kids

How many kids are you comfortable placing in your home and what is your square footage? Also, how many bedrooms/bathrooms?

Well, with the agency we are certified through there is a rule of 2 per bedroom, if it's an infant under 2 they are allowed to sleep in our room, after the age of 5 if a FC is sharing a room it must be with the same gender, but 5 & under is ok to share with an opposite gender who is also 5 & under.

We have a 3br & 2ba. Our capacity is 4, but realistically I can only handle my 2 little ones who are both under a year right now. I have considered possibly opening a bed for shelter purposes, but was told there wasn't a need....

As for square footage we just moved here and I honestly don't know.

Our home was a 5 bedroom, 1 bath. We had our 4 bio children and were licensed for 4 but at one time had 6 foster children. So we had a total of 12 of us in the house...fun, fun, with one bathroom.

Our house is about 2000 sq feet. We have two large bedrooms, two smaller bedrooms, and two bathrooms. We have each of our two bio children in their own room (the two smaller ones) and my husband and I are in one of the larger bedrooms. The other large bedroom is designated for foster children and we have two twin beds set up in there because two is really the limit we want at this time.

HOWEVER, where we live there is a limit of 8 total children and we were told that with our two bio we could take in 6 foster children!! Not something I was willing to do, but they stated that we could put 4 instead of two in that larger bedroom we have set up and then one in each of the rooms with our bio children (not comfortable putting some foster children in there). So we have decided that our bio children will always have their own room and that we will be very choosy about who gets placed in the bedroom with the foster child we have. So far so good!!

I've got a smallish house at just under 1100 square feet, three bedrooms, one bath. I'm set up for two girls in one bedroom. I've considered using the other bedroom for boys but I strictly telecommute so the third bedroom is my office.

We have about 1300 square feet, 3 bedrooms, two baths. Our bio daughter is going to share a room with our future adopted daughter and our future adopted son will get the other kid's room. We're not going to continue to foster after we adopt our two though.

Our house is about 3200 sq ft--it's 104 years old. We have 4 official bedrooms and a family room that used to be my MIL's bedroom when she lived with us. We're licensed for 5 and have had 4 twice. We're limited to 6 kids in the home and we have a 12 yr old son. Our 20 yr old still lives with us, so we actually only have 2 bedrooms to work with, but they're big rooms. Right now we have 2, brother and sister under 5, so they're sharing a room and J and N both have their own rooms.

We have about 1700 sq. feet and we had three children at once. That's the most we would take before buying a bigger house. They were siblings though, and the two youngest were 1 and 2, so they shared a bedroom. We have three bedrooms and one bathroom.

We have about 4200 square feet. Part of our basement is not finished though but all the bedrooms downstairs are. We have 6 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We have three of our own now plus 3 foster children. We currently only use 5 of the bedrooms with the ages and genders we have. We have plenty of room but for me it's about the number of kids I'm willing to take on. We have plenty right now. This weekend we actually had 7 kids because we had a sibling of our girls spend the weekend.

Mine is 2400sf with three bedrooms, 2 baths. I am licensed for 2, usually have three and WILL NOT take more than three. This gives me one larger room (the room my mother calls 'hers') and a smaller room that my 2 toddlers are sharing right now. I try to save the larger room for my mom on her frequent visits OR for an older child (I had a 10yo in there for awhile).

We've got 1400 sq feet, 3 bedrooms & 1 1/2 baths. We're licensed for 1, but they've tried to get us to take 2. We won't do it, though. Only 2 of the bedrooms are upstairs, and there's a regulation that the parents have to sleep on the same floor as the kids (we take young ones). Which means that our son shares a very small room with our foster son. There are bunk beds and a crib in there right now, and our consultant thought we should be able to put another kid in the other bunk bed since the FS we have is still in the crib. We said no to that.

I've got 3400 Sq. feet. 5BR, 2BA, Fam Rm, Office, Living room, Dining Room, Nursery attached to my bedroom.

I currently have 5 placements. My 2 oldest (16 and 8) are in separate bedrooms on the first floor. The babies (age 1 and 2) share a bedroom, JD has his own bedroom, and I have my own bedroom (of course). The nursey attached to my room is empty and probably will remain so. I use it as my sitting area with a recliner and TV. The bedrooms are HUGE. The house is actually 6 bedrooms plus nursery, but I turned the 6th bedroom into my office.

I am at capacity for my state. They just recently changed the regulations from a max of 6 to a max of 5.

That sucks.

We have 4500 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. We have three bio children and are licensed for two, but that is at our own request.

We live in a 3400SF home- 4/5bedrooms( our master bedroom really should be a family room) and 2baths. We have 2bios, 1adopted & 1 foster with room in our license for 2more. Our state's rule is that each kiddo must have 50sf. 2 of our bedrooms will fit 2 kids, 2 would fit 3 and if we gave up our master bedroom for kids- it'd fit 6 LOL! Right now our two bios have their own rooms, 1 of the larger bedrooms is the play room & the babies (2 & 3) share a room.
