A 16 month old baby boy...
Wow... I haven't had one that little in a while.... They are on their way with him now. I'll update a little later, but it appears that mom (who is homeless) dropped him off at DHHS because she felt he deserved better, She is very young (18, I think) and feels like he deserves more than what she can give him. Goal: Reunification I will update you guys later.

To me, congratulations doesn't seem like the right thing to say (please note that I mean that as no offense to pp's). I remember my foster care trainer saying this is a happy day (day of placement) for you but for the child it could be the saddest of his/her life. Thank God his mom knew to take him where he could be safe and cared for.
Praying for him, the biomom and you. Keep us posted. I love boys and toddlers...

Well, he is here... and it's the weirdest thing...
When the caseworker brought him to my home, he jumped into my arms as if he's known me all his life. He has been all smiles and giggles this evening. He ate VERY well. I am very suprised. Inside of his packed bag as a letter that read this: Dearest B, I love you so much and now even more. I'm going to miss you like no tomorrow. I cried as I packed your things. You're my anything and everything and you're leaving too soon and I feel like I'm dying so many times inside, and I think, what's one more time? B, everything has a reason and a purpose. I've loved you since I first gazed in your eyes. Time won't change a thing except that I will love you more. I guess we came into each other's life with meaning. You saved my life, and now I have to save yours. I can't take care of you and I know that the nice people will find someone who can. I've packed the stuffed animals I bought you. I took Snoopy out of the baby box I made you so you could have them both. Goodbye, my sweetpea. Always, Mommy. PS always remember I love you and everything will be okay. OMG... this brought tears to my eyes.... it's like she has no intention on trying to reunify. I just hope she knows that there are resources out here for her... I hope she changes her mind and gives parenting another chance. This letter broke my heart. I don't think the caseworker knew it was in the bag.

Oh my word... I'm crying.
That poor, scared mother. What an amazing thing to do this for her little one while she tries to get her life together.

Well, tonight went well. He is such a little jokester... He got the entire bathroom wet during bathtime (how does a one year old do that?)
While looking through his paperwork I have discovered that he is not 16 months, he is 17 months. He went to bed peacefully. No crying. After his bath, I lotioned him up, put on his pajamas, and laid him in his crib. I said "night-night" and shut out the light. He called out "Ma!" one time... and then that was it. The next time I went in there (about 10 minutes later), he was out like a light. Mom sent his blanket and he carries it everywhere (like Linus). He is such a sweet boy. He has been very aggressive with JD, though. JD has a knot on his head from B hitting him with a truck. DHHS doesn't know of any health issues. They provided me with a $200 voucher for baby stuff (Pampers/wipes/lotion/food) and a $200 voucher for clothing. This mom really seems as if she cares about her baby. I hope that she gives parenting another try.

Wow, that letter brought tears to my eyes. I think the Mom is taking the 1st step, the cw should really talk to her and explain to her all the services they provide parents. It already sounds like she is a good mother and know what's best for her child. I wish most bparents who are struggling and feel that way would do that for their children.
That's great for you, your family and for him, though he might not understand it right now, at least he knows his Mom really does love him and wants the best for him. Maybe she just needed to place him in foster care while she gets her act together. I hope for her sake and the baby's. Good Luck!

Wow, what a wonderful mother that boy has. Her letter is so touching.
Hopefully armed with that the CW will strive to provide services to her as soon as possible. It seems like he was well taken care of, but who knows all the details. I'm sure his mother is so happy that he is safe and doing well with you. Enjoy him and keep us posted! |

So sad.
I hope that in the coming weeks, mom can clear her head and search for/be advised of help that is available to get her on track. She certainly seems to deserve it. |

Well, I don't know.... the sw was supposed to call me to set up visits. She said that Bs mom was supposed to call her today to figure out a plan of action. She said that she would call me as soon as she knew something. Having worked with this sw on previous placements, I know she is very reliable. She didn't call me, so I think its safe to assume that mom didn't reach out to her.
I ask those of you that believe in a higher power to pray for little B's mom. He had a great day today. VERY happy baby. He eats VERY well, and went to sleep tonight again without a hitch. If you even glance at him his face just lights up. He is a lot of fun! JD is somewhat jealous, but I try to keep the balance between the two. JD is such an independent kid and the baby takes a lot of time. I have to keep my eyes on him ALL the time... he's always trying to get into something. Anyone have any insight on how to not make JD feel like he has been put on the back burner?
