New situation
My two fs's that went home in Novemeber are back.... kind of...
Bio mom and I talk all the time and get along great. Well she still goes to court for a program that kept her out of prison. Anyway I called her yesterday and she said she was headed for court and would call me later. Well in the middle of the afternoon I get a call and she asks me to get her kids because she is going to jail for a week. (The kids are no longer under DCS supervision) I pick up the boys and also bring home their 13 yr old sister. (She never lived with us, she always stayed with another foster family) Well, I'm freaking out. I know NO details, other than I have the kids possibly for a week. Bio mom calls me collect from the jail later in the day and tells me why she's in there. She also gives me the number of her family case manager. I call cm and tell her what is going on. Cm says bio mom's story doesn't add up, that she's not telling us everything. She said she would go to the jail today to find out more and call me. So here I wait for details. If you recall we are suppose to be leaving for Texas in a little over a month. Now dh and I worried sick. These boys lived with us for 2 1/2 years. We promised them we would always be there for them. Now if bio mom is screwing up again and we are gone??? I'd be sick if they ended up in fc again. I'm trying not to worry...yet.... Please pray for this situation!! |

I am quickly learning that everything gets put on hold for our foster kids. Sometimes our own families get second place.
I think we all do this because we have big hearts and are passionate about helping these kids. You might have to postpone your trip or put the kids in respite. Do what your heart tells you to do. |

We can't postpone it...we are moving there. My dh has a new job... that's why it's so stressful....
But we'll just take it a day at a time.... |

Just hang in there....for now the kids are safe. Could you imagine if you found out that they were in a shelter somewhere or homeless? At least she loves them enough to call you and give you all the information.
Keep us posted.

I've always wondered about this. If a bmom calls after RU and wants child to come with you, are we obligated to contact social services to make sure it's okay? ...or do we have the right to just take in the child with no questions asked?
Also, if parents are in jail, it's possible for Social services to NOT be involved. I was always under the impression if parents are in jail, ss would be involved for sure. |

This childrens' case has been dismissed by the courts. So they are no longer under the care of DCS. She's just like any other mom....as long as someone can care for the children while she's incarcerated. Sounds like the kids will be here until Friday, when she gets out.
Things are going well. I've spoken with her family case manager and things aren't as bad as they sounded. She didn't do anything "bad". Sounds weird sine she's in jail, but it's true.... |
