help with names ASAP
I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help, but I'll give it a shot. We are getting a newborn hispanic boy tomorrow. He has no name!! We get to name him if we want.
We thought of the name Elias, but we're not sure. Any ideas?? We also need a middle name for a little hispanic girl named Mia. Thanks!! |

I think Elias is a wonderful name! I also really like Rose as a girl's middle name.

We might go with Elias Mateo or Elias Mathew. Never thought I'd actually get to name a child. It's weird to have to come up with one so quick. They want to know by the time they get here with him tomorrow. 3 days old, WOW!!

I'd go with Elias Mateo, for the sake of his heritage. Mateo is FAIRLY straight forward as far as pronounciation and whatnot.
For your daughter/the little girl... (is her name pronounced My a or Me a?) Mia Aleja Mia Trina Mia Maria One more thing... CONGRATS!!! on the little boy!

It is pronounced Me a. I kinda wanted to use Grace, but a friend has already used it. I guess I shouldn't care and go with what I want.
Thanks everyone. |

our case workers name is Gracia, prounounced grah-sha... how do you like Mia Gracia?
And I actually think I like Mateo Elias better than elias Mateo... flows off the tongue easier for me. but it would also depend on the last name. |

Names are totally subjective so take everything that I say as nothing more than my own personal taste.
I like Elias Mateo. I also think Elias José has a very nice ring to it in Spanish. Both are very solid, classic names. The only drawback is that Elias is a tough name for non-native speakers to pronounce correctly. And I have to admit, while I really like the name Elias in Spanish, I'm less crazy about the English pronounciation with the long "e" and "i." I'd suggest that you keep in mind both the Spanish and English pronunciation of any name that you choose because the child is likely to hear both versions of his name. Some other possibilities that have a nice ring to them... Elias Gabriel Elias Roman Alejandro David For Mia (which means 'mine' in Spanish), I like middle names that start with a vowel. I think it goes particularly well with Elena and Isabel. In order of the names I like... Mia Elena Mia Isabel Mia Alicia So... that's my two cents' worth. That was fun! |

You know, I was just about to post concerning this same thing! I'm getting a 2-month-old baby girl, foster/adopt legal risk, and she has no name. Can you believe she's that old without a name?! The foster mom who's had her must just be calling her Baby. I'm not sure what'll happen or if/when we get to name her. I guess it will depend on the mom and whether she follows the plan.
I think whether or not you choose Mateo or Matthew, or Grace or Gracia just depends on whether you want them to have a Hispanic name or Hispanic/English name because they mean the same thing anyway. I wouldn't worry about your friend unless you were planning on calling your girl Grace. As for a middle name, go for it. Congratulations by the way!!
