Foster in the future

We finalized the aoption of our DD last month.
Yesterday we recieved a letter in the mail about renewing our license. Apparently they are making some changes to the system and need to re-evaluate a number of homes. We want to adopt again sometime in the future (in a year or two) but want some time to just live without CW's for a while.

So, if we let our license lapse now, do we have to start the WHOLE process again when we want to get back in the "game". We were the last group to get the 6 week MAPP class, now it's 11 weeks long. Having to do that again is enough to make me want to keep our license current.

Has anyone let there license lapse and then gone back to foster/adopt again? What was the process? We are in CA if anyone has specific info on CA.

I totally understand! We had to renew ours about 1 month before finalization, so the cards were played for us. Right now we are licensed but not accepting placements except short term emergencies or kin of our daughters

Best wishes

Diane

Had a discussion with the CW last night about this. All you typically need to do is go "inactive - or active but not accepting placements" but keep up on your yearly training hours. Then you won't have to re-do all the original classes.

Funny! We were thinking about the same thing last week, we'll be finalizing our adoption next month, and we received the same letter in December (I'm in CA as well), I returned it but we haven't heard anything from them. I think we'll renew our foster license, but just don't accept children. Once we are ready to fost/adopt again, which we're thinking in a year, we'll open up our case. Our adoption worker told us, they had to do an update home study, since we have a daughter now. But at least, we don't have to start all over with the foster license and CCL.

Regarding your yearly training, I thought you didn't have to take one if you don't have any children placed in your home.

We were told that if our license should lapse we would have to take all the classes over again. This is why we have kept it up.
